How to add a table column left of the first column?

2008-09-16 Thread Daniel Lohmann

LyX 1.5.6, MacOSX

Hi,

I have a (big and complicated) table which I need to extend by an
additional column on the left side (the new column is to become the
first column of the table). As far as I have figured out, the Add
column button always inserts the new column right of the current one.

I know that I could just add the column on the right side and then use
copypaste to move the content from the current first column to the
new one. Unfortunately, multicolumn settings do not survive such
action in LyX and many cells from the current first column span
multiple columns. Hence, I would have to manually restore multicolumn
settings, cell by cell.

Is there a better trick?

Thanks!

metafile2eps clips images

2008-09-16 Thread Brookes, Mike
I installed Lyx 1.5.6 on Windows using the standard installer but found
that many images became clipped when converting from .emf (Windows
metafile) to .eps format. After quite a lot of searching I disscovered
that the problem lay in the settings of the newly installed metafile2esp
pseudo-printer. In the Device Settings section of the printer
properties the Form to Tray Assignment setting was A4 for both the
Tray and Manual feeds. Setting these two parameters to Huge solved
the clipping problem.

I am not enough of a Windows expert to be sure, but I think the problem
may arise because when it installs a new printer, Windows defaults to
the selections that were chosen last time a printer was installed rather
than using a fixed set of defaults. Because I had previously installed a
real postscript printer, my tray sizes defaulted to A4. This may be
entirely the wrong explanation, but I hope that, in any case, this
message helps anyone else who experiences the same clipping problem with
metafile2eps.

excessive space under wrap figure

2008-09-16 Thread Andreas Nowatzyk
Hi,

I'm sorry if this came up before, but I could not find an answer in the
archives.

I'm using Lyx 1.5.5 on a default document of type article, single column,
that includes numerous wrap-figures (float-text Wrap float...). The figures
have an eps-graphic (created with Inkscape, mostly, but also from other
sources. The problem does not seem eps-file sensitive), with a figure-caption
below the graphic that includes a label.

My problem is that Lyx reserves too much space below the figures. There is the
graphics, followed by the caption, the followed by 2-4 extra lines of white
space. This looks rather goofy and wastes precious space when you are up
against page-limits. Furthermore, the white space below the figures can spill
over to the next page, which is very undesirable.

So my question is: how can I control the extend of the vertical space that is
set aside for the figure?

I tried editing the bounding-box info in the EPS file, which helps to controll
the space between the graphic and the caption, but this doesn't seem to
affect the space after the caption.

The LaTeX code generated by Lyx looks like this:

\begin{wrapfigure}{l}{0.35\columnwidth}%
\begin{centering}
\includegraphics[bb=0bp 10bp 150bp 150bp]{eqi}
\par\end{centering}

\caption{\label{fig:OCT-vs.-HFT}OCT vs. HFT Sensing}
\end{wrapfigure}%

I guess that l is the parameter that I want to change (make smaller). But
how to do this in a semi repeatable fashion?

Thanks for any suggestions/pointers in advance

You can adjust the position of the figure (and his caption, so the box)
with the command,
\vspace{-(xx)pt(or any other distance avaliable in LaTeX)}. (xx) is a
number, don't write the parentheses.

And you can put this command before and after the command \includegraphics.

The command \centering don't make sense in {wrapfigure}environement because
you need to introduce also the position {l} or {r} (left or right) in the
ERT text for to put the figure.

Something like this in ERT:
\begin{wrapfigure}{l}{0.35\columnwidth}
\vspace{-,+(xx)pt}
\includegraphics[(I prefere here width=zz(unit)]{equi}
\caption{bla, bla, bla}
\vspace{-,+(yy)pt}

In LyX 1.5.5, check Subsection 4.6.1, Float types, of the User's

Basically, you can graphically insert vertical spaces with custom,
negative values just about anywhere in the float.

I tried editing the bounding-box info in the EPS file, which helps to
controll

the space between the graphic and the caption, but this doesn't seem to
affect the space after the caption.

The LaTeX code generated by Lyx looks like this:

\begin{wrapfigure}{l}{0.35\columnwidth}%
\begin{centering}
\includegraphics[bb=0bp 10bp 150bp 150bp]{eqi}
\par\end{centering}

\caption{\label{fig:OCT-vs.-HFT}OCT vs. HFT Sensing}
\end{wrapfigure}%

I guess that l is the parameter that I want to change (make smaller).
But

how to do this in a semi repeatable fashion?

Thanks for any suggestions/pointers in advance

How to add a table column left of the first column?

2008-09-16 Thread Daniel Lohmann

LyX 1.5.6, MacOSX

Hi,

I have a (big and complicated) table which I need to extend by an
additional column on the left side (the new column is to become the
first column of the table). As far as I have figured out, the "Add
column" button always inserts the new column right of the current one.

I know that I could just add the column on the right side and then use
copy to move the content from the current first column to the
new one. Unfortunately, multicolumn settings do not survive such
action in LyX and many cells from the current first column span
multiple columns. Hence, I would have to manually restore multicolumn
settings, cell by cell.

Is there a better trick?

Thanks!

Daniel

I used the LyXServer, for instance, to program a `lyx-remote` script,
that opens given files in a running LyX session (or starts LyX with the

How is it possible to make theorems in LyX thats automatically assigned a

this.

metafile2eps clips images

2008-09-16 Thread Brookes, Mike
I installed Lyx 1.5.6 on Windows using the standard installer but found
that many images became clipped when converting from .emf (Windows
metafile) to .eps format. After quite a lot of searching I disscovered
that the problem lay in the settings of the newly installed metafile2esp
pseudo-printer. In the "Device Settings" section of the printer
properties the "Form to Tray Assignment" setting was A4 for both the
"Tray" and "Manual" feeds. Setting these two parameters to "Huge" solved
the clipping problem.

Which LyX verison are you using? In 1.6 this is easy to do with a "layout
module" (copy and modify the
/layouts/theorems-ams-extended.module file).

I don't know of such a trick. But you should definitely post this to

Please see the math documentation. LyX 1.5.x has theorem environments
available with the AMS classes---article (AMS), etc---and there are ways
to use these with other classes, too.

As G"unter said, this will be easier in 1.6.x. All you have to do is
include the theorems module, and you have theorem-like environments.

excessive space under wrap figure

2008-09-16 Thread Andreas Nowatzyk
Hi,

I'm sorry if this came up before, but I could not find an answer in the
archives.

I'm using Lyx 1.5.5 on a default document of type "article", single column,
that includes numerous wrap-figures (float->text Wrap float...). The figures
have an eps-graphic (created with Inkscape, mostly, but also from other

\begin{centering}
\includegraphics[bb=0bp 10bp 150bp 150bp]{eqi}
\par\end{centering}

\caption{\label{fig:OCT-vs.-HFT}OCT vs. HFT Sensing}
\end{wrapfigure}%

I guess that "l" is the parameter that I want to change (make smaller). But
how to do this in a semi repeatable fashion?

Thanks for any suggestions/pointers in advance

How exactly does it clip? If it removes some parts of the image, then it is
a bug. If it clips so that the bounding box of the converted image is
cropped exactly to the borders of the real image, then it is working
perfectly, and this behaviour is wanted. The reason is that emf/wmf files
often contain a huge white border, which is not needed, because LaTeX adds
the right amount of space to included graphics.

Re: excessive space under wrap figure

2008-09-16 Thread Yago
You can adjust the position of the figure (and his caption, so "the box")
with the command,
\vspace{-(xx)pt(or any other distance avaliable in LaTeX)}. (xx) is a
number, don't write the parentheses.

And you can put this command before and after the command \includegraphics.

The command \centering don't make sense in {wrapfigure}environement because
you need to introduce also the position {l} or {r} (left or right) in the
ERT text for to put the figure.

Something like this in ERT:
\begin{wrapfigure}{l}{0.35\columnwidth}
\vspace{-,+(xx)pt}
\includegraphics[(I prefere here "width=zz(unit)"]{equi}
\caption{bla, bla, bla}
\vspace{-,+(yy)pt}
\end{wrapfigure}
