Override menu hotkeys?

2008-12-11 Thread Christopher Menzel

Greetings LyX users,

I'm using LyX 1.6 in a Linux virtual machine under OS X which uses the
option key as the alt key. (I also use the OS X version, of course.)
I would like to have as many Emacs keybindings as possible in LyX, in
particular, Alt-f to move forward by word, Alt-d to delete by word.
However, even though I have defined my desired keybindings in the
emacs.bind file, with the OS X keyboard, Alt-f still brings up the
File menu and Alt-d the Document menu. So, question: Is it possible
to override this behavior, either in a LyX config file or some other
config file, so that I can get the Emacsy behavior I long for?

Thanks.

Chris Menzel

Re: a guide for get a 1.6.0 crash

2008-12-11 Thread Jens Noeckel

Hi,
here's the recipe for another similar crash:
1) New doc (article)
2) Choose layout: section,
3) Type "Results" (or some title)
4) Insert > URL
5) Edit > Undo (or keyboard shortcut)

Amazingly, this crashes LyX on the Mac!

It seems that the main ingredient is that we're trying to undo an
insertion (in my case a URL), while there is also a section or
subsection heading before the inset. If I replace the section layout
by a normal paragraph in my short example, I don't get the crash. I
reported an undo-related crash a long time ago and it was fixed - but
this calls for a new bug report unless someone has already filed one.

The setting "super" makes natbib print the references the way you want.
With raised numbers linked to bibliography entries. Try it. Or just see

etc... and at the end of the document, find a number "1" with her

Don't ask me why she needs it, but she does. Her teachers whant the
bibliography to be written this way. MS Word can do it, Lyx cannot in my
experience. Why? Is there something I miss, can you tip me in any way
please? We really need a solution for that problem or Lyx is unusable for
her. Naturally, she cannot put the numbers by hand, or she would loose the
automated numbering feature of MS Word... like in notes for Lyx, in fact, if
you add a bibliography entry before the one tagged as number "1", the new
one becomes number "1" and the old one becomes automatically "2". So, the
automatism is of course necessary.

Ideas? Suggestions? Please help.

So, it's a LyX change and not a LaTeX terminology change. That's good to

Now I recall there was also a problem with "Shift-rightarrow" and
"Shift-leftarrow" not selecting text (function called
char-forward-select). I think all I needed to do was put these shortcuts
back within that LyX menu.

I've made changes only in ~/.lyx/*.bind, not before in Edit->Preferences,
so I don't have a clue if the latter is something new. Wonder why key
bindings are specified in two places; it would make more sense to me
if the

*.bind file was picked up and used rather than the menu leaf approach.

You can do it either way. The dialog just makes it easier for people who
don't want to mess with text files.

Incidentally, an easy way to discover this, assuming you have LyX

see what it looks like in LaTeX.
