You can use the ERT command \pagestyle{plain} before the list of figures command. - Original Message - From: "Nikos Alexandris"To: Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2009 12:27 PM Subject: How can I get rid the headings out of some pages? LyXers, in a document using book(KOMA-Script) the heading "list of figures" is repeated in 2-3 pages after the "list of figures" page. Why is that so? How can I get rid of it? Yago: > You can use the ERT command \pagestyle{plain} before the list of > figures command. It works :-). But it works for the whole document :D. How do I get them (the headings) back for the next chapters?
Removing languages
When I write mixed Hebrew-English documents, I have to select the language for each span of text. There are tens of languages installed, how can I remove the unused languages from the dropdown list? It would be much easier if I could choose from _four_ languages instead of four hunderd. How do I get them (the headings) back for the next chapters? Try putting \pagestyle{headings} (or \pagestyle{fancy} if you were using fancyhdr) in ERT somewhere in the page where you want to resume headings.

But why not defining a keyboard shortcut for the language change instead of using the dialog? On http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Hebrew this is for example done. Alternatively to the bind file there, you can define new shortcuts in LyX's preferences dialog under Editing->Shortcuts. regards Uwe

Problems importing Tex file
When I try to import a tex file, I get a messages saying that there was an error running tex2lyx. When I try to run tex2lyx on the file manually I get this error: $ tex2lyx Olga_Lavrenteva.tex Creating file [snip_path]/Olga_Lavrenteva.lyx Ignoring options 'dvips' of package color. Error: Could not find layout file for textclass "svjour3". However, in the same directory there exists svjour3.cls, svjour.clo, and template.txt, and I even put a copy of those files in ~/.lyx/layouts as per the tex2lyx manpage. What am I doing wrong? These files are LaTeX files, so they must be installed to your LaTeX distribution. So copy them to an appropriate folder to your LaTeX distribution usually under ~\tex\latex\svjour and then use either - the command line command "texhash" when your are using TeXLive under Lunix/Mac or - refresh the file name database in MiKTeX's settings program. Finally restart LyX and reconfigure it. regards Uwe

I will go back to TFM as I'm not quite sure what I need to do here. I suppose that I do not understand the difference between tex and latex. Wikipedia says that tex is a typesetting system and that latex is a markup language for it. So .tex files are actually latex markup, no (like an HTML file is SGML markup, no)? There is a lot of material to cover, is there any one concise resource for getting up to speed quickly? I have gone through the wiki, I will start on the Lyx tutorial now: http://www.lyx.org/~jug/lyx/lyxdoc/Tutorial/ -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il א-ב-ג-ד-ה-ו-ז-ח-ט-י-ך-כ-ל-ם-מ-ן-נ-ס-ע-ף-פ-ץ-צ-ק-ר-ש-ת ا-ب-ت-ث-ج-ح-خ-د-ذ-ر-ز-س-ش-ص-ض-ط-ظ-ع-غ-ف-ق-ك-ل-م-ن-ه-و-ي А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е-Ё-Ж-З-И-Й-К-Л-М-Н-О-П-Р-С-Т-У-Ф-Х-Ц-Ч-Ш-Щ-Ъ-Ы-Ь-Э-Ю-Я а-б-в-г-д-е-ё-ж-з-и-й-к-л-м-н-о-п-р-с-т-у-ф-х-ц-ч-ш-щ-ъ-ы-ь-э-ю-я ä-ö-ü-ß-Ä-Ö-Ü

I suppose that I do not understand the difference between tex and latex. But you don't need to know that. All you have to know is that LyX is a frontend to LaTeX, therefore it uses the LaTeX-packages you have installed in your LaTeX distribution. Installing a LaTeX-package is easy when you use the package manager of your LaTeX distribution. What distribution are your using, MiKTeX under Windows or TeXLive under Linux? In your case you only have to install the LaTeX-package "svjour" to your LaTeX-distribution, that's all for now. regards Uwe

Dotan Cohen schrieb: What is TFM? Why are you unsure? The Fine Manual. It is a common TLA in many mailing lists. OK, and what is a TLA? I suppose that _that_ is the detail that was not clear to me. I did not know that I need to have LaTeX packages installed in my LaTeX distribution. I'm still not sure what that _means_, but I have enough keywords to google on! A LaTeX distribution is the same as a Linux distribution, but instead of programs like a Linux distro it is a compound of packages. Installing a LaTeX-package is easy when you use the package manager of your LaTeX distribution. What distribution are your using, MiKTeX under Windows or TeXLive under Linux? As this is a Kubuntu system, should I assume that I am using TeXLive? Yes. So just open TeXLive and go there to its package manager (and install svjour if it is available there). How it works should be self-explanatory or have a look at its documentation. When svjour is not offered by the package manager, then do what I wrote in my initial mail.
