BUG - Unable to view User Guide in PDF - UPDATE

2009-11-01 Thread James Ronback

Uwe,

Installing the default MikTex via the Lyx installer fails. (A new bug?)
So I updated the old MikTex from 2.5 to 2.8 and deleted and reinstalled
Lyx 1.6 and referenced the tex.exe file in new MikTex .

Now I get a different messages when I click on the PDF icon to obtain a
PDF version of the User's Guide (the lyx version fetched via the Help tab):

Latex error:
I can't write on file 'UserGuide.idx'

\makeindex

Please type another output file name

How do I get past this obstacle? Where do I write this alternate output
file name?

Not knowing what to do next, I tried to produce a PDF version of the
User's Guidet a second time. IT NOW WORKS!! Go figure! Is this an
instance of self-repairing software?

Puzzled,
Jim

When I fetch the User's Guide via the Help tab and attempt to view
the The LyX User's Guide by the LyX TeamVersion 1.6.x as a PDF file by
clicking on the PDF icon (View pdflatex) I get the following error message:

tex\latex\subfig\subfig.sty is missing:

When I say install from
ftp://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packages/

the following messages occur:

An empty output file was generated

LaTeX Error: File `subfig.sty' not found.

\makeatother

*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes) .

Am I doing something wrong? I've installed the Windows version Lyx ver
1.6.4 on an PC with Windows XP Pro sp 3 and I have Adobe Reader 9.2.0

PS The same problem occurs when I try to view the User Guide as
Postscript file

But I can view the PDF version of the Lyx tutorial OK.

howto copy external material to lyx working directory

2009-11-01 Thread Egon Alter
Hi,

I like to use the pdfx package which needs some external files (icc profile,
xmpdata file) in the lyx_tmpbuf folder. The filenames are hardcoded. How can
tell lyx to copy these files to the tmpbuf folder before compiling?

thanks

Make sure you have a working Internet connection, then run MiKTeX's
Browse Packages program. Locate the subfig package; it will probably
be listed as not installed. (If it is installed, something is funky
with your setup). Install it, then reconfigure and restart LyX. Uwe's
suggestion should have done this is you have MiKTeX set to automatically
install missing packages, but you may have it set to ignore them.

If you had the UG open in Acrobat Reader the first time, that might

It could be that your LaTeX-installation is broken. When this problem reappears
try to fix this:

- uninstall LyX - completely

It was reported that MiKTeX 2.8 is not working stable so you can either
- either install LyX using the complete version of the alternative Windows installer (This installs

(a) Show me how to do this and/or easily convert the hmcpset.cls file to a valid
layout, with the same environments and all, or

Attached is a layout file for the hmcpset class and a LyX file I created with it. To install the
layout file, copy it to the layouts folder of LyX and afterwards reconfigure LyX.
The layout file should work without the need of further changes. Have a look at its content to see
how environments are defined.

This would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Seriously you'll be my new favorite person.

Oh no, no more groupies! ;-)

When the layout works for you, ca you please create a new page at our Wiki where you provide this
layout file and give some installation instructions?:

Re: Epsilon ran off ...[SOLVED]

2009-11-01 Thread Paul A. Rubin
Turns out my laptop (Mint Gloria) did not have the latex-xft-fonts
installed (which should have been the first thing I checked).
Installing that cured the problem.

Apparently I have a caffeine deficiency. :-(
