Spell checker

2010-03-16 Thread Daniel Ng
Hi all

I have downloaded the latest version of Lyx for windows and having troubles
installing the spell checker function on my windows 7 machine. I installed
Aspell on to my computer and found that the spell checker still fails to
work. I also have obtained the latest English dictionaries and placed them
under Aspell program data under folders data and dictionary and still obtain
errors while using lyx.

The current error that I obtain when trying to use the spell checker is
Spellchecker cannot be loaded,
C:\programdata\aspell\Dictionaries/en-common.rws cannot be opened for
reading

I have searched on google, Lyx, Aspell, wiki documents and found nothing.
During this time of trying to actually solve this problem, there is a clear
lack of documentation for installing Aspell and installing the dictionary
files for windows as the program is more Linux orientated.

As other guides state you should copy the dictionaries into the Aspell
directory, is this correct? Other guides in linux state you should compile
these dictionaries. So I am currently confused on what i am suppose to do.

Is there any chance of someone providing a step by step instructions for
installing Aspell and dictionaries on to lyx for windows? Or providing
information in correcting my problem.

Thanks

Daniel

Language selection in Lyx 1.6.x

2010-03-16 Thread Jan
Dear all,

I have the problem that some of my paragraphs seem to be marked as a different
language (I guess it's some British/U.S. English issue), resulting in these
annoying blue underlines.

I know that I can set the document language in document - settings, but that
won't solve the issues of multiple.

The lyx support webpages states that one should use Edit - Text Style -
Language. However, the option Language doesn't exist under Edit - Text Style in
Lyx 1.6.5. I tried to find such language options in some other menus but went
nuts trying. I could just ignore the blue underlines but seeing them makes me so
agressive ...

Thanks for any help!

Re: making \citep the default natbib citation style?

I've done some more reading of natbib itself (the included pdf) -- it's
pretty clear that if natbib is set to *author-year* style, then the standard

You can see this in LyX when using natbib under Document - Settings -

Is it possible to control this in LyX somehow; to tell LyX to issue \citep

behaviour? (Maybe this is all really a question for the natbib community?) I
feel like I must be missing something obvious.

Koma-script question

2010-03-16 Thread stefano franchi
I thought I would ask a Komascript question, as there seems to be several
expert users on this forum.

I'd like to have captions in table and figures in a smaller font size *and*
with a correspondingly smaller leading space.
I know I can change the font size with

\addtokomafont{caption}{\smaller}

in the preamble, but this command does not touch the leading space. If, for
instance, the main document is 12pt one-half space, I end up with ugly
looking and space-eating widely spaced captions.

Does anyone know how to solve the problem? I could not find the answer in
the Koma-script manual.

Thanks,

S.

I'd like to have them without the prefix 'Figu. 1:' etc, just my caption and
no other text. So I put

 \captionsetup[figure]{labelformat=empty}

my caption text. How can I eliminate this?

Change indent of section number in toc

2010-03-16 Thread Robert Neumann
Hello,
I am writing a text using article.
Now I would like to increase the indent in the section and subsection- lines in
the toc.
I'm talking about the indent before the actual section-number.
(The reason is, that I have 3 different parts, with sections from 1 to 5, I use
setcounter to set the sectioncounter to 0 at the beginning of each part.)
I downloaded the tocloft-package, but I cannot figure out, how to change the
indent just for the sections and subsections...

BTW I use Lyx 1.34 on Suse Linux (please don't ask me to upgrade, I do this for
good reasons, I allready discussed here)

Re: Koma-script caption question

2010-03-16 Thread stefano franchi
Richard,
take a look at the following excerpt (from the Komascript Manual, p. 114):

In KOMA-Script there are different ways to change the formatting of the
caption text. The definition of different font styles was already explained
above. This or the caption delimiter between the label and the label text
itself is specified in the macro \captionformat. In contrast to all other
\...format commands, in this case it does not contain the counter but
only the items which follow it. The original definition is:
\newcommand*{\captionformat}{:\ }
This too can be changed with \renewcommand.
Example: For some inexplicable reasons you want a dash with spaces
before and after instead of a colon followed by a space as label
delimiter. You define:
\renewcommand*{\captionformat}{~--~}
This definition should be put in the preamble of your document.

This seems to indicate
\renewcommand*{captionformat}{}

should do the trick (I haven't tested it though).

Single caption spanning two pictures: create a picture float, insert the images

Single float, two figures with separate captions: use the subfigure environment.

Koma-script caption question

2010-03-16 Thread Richard Brown
I have I'm using Koma script book, and I need to adjust the captions for my
floats.

I'd like to have them without the prefix 'Figu. 1:' etc, just my caption and
no other text. So I put

 \captionsetup[figure]{labelformat=empty}

in the preamble, following advice found on this list. The Fig. 1 disappeared
fine- but not the colon! So I now have a very ugly and irrelevant : before
my caption text. How can I eliminate this?

TIA

\newcommand*{\captionformat}{:\ }
This too can be changed with \renewcommand.
Example: For some inexplicable reasons you want a dash with spaces
before and after instead of a colon followed by a space as label
delimiter. You define:
\renewcommand*{\captionformat}{~--~}
This definition should be put in the preamble of your document.

This seems to indicate
\renewcommand*{captionformat}{}

should do the trick (I haven't tested it though).

When the biblatex styles creates some op. cit, ibid., etc. it needs a new
latex run ro get the cross-references right. LyX does not understand that.
Maybe in the 2.0 version it is fixed, but I don't know.

The only workaround is to export your article when finished and run it

Language selection in Lyx 1.6.x

2010-03-16 Thread Jan
Dear all,

I have the problem that some of my paragraphs seem to be marked as a different
language (I guess it's some British/U.S. English issue), resulting in these
annoying blue underlines.

I know that I can set the document language in document -> settings, but that
won't solve the issues of multiple.

The lyx support webpages states that one should use Edit -> Text Style ->
Language. However, the option Language doesn't exist under Edit -> Text Style in
Lyx 1.6.5. I tried to find such language options in some other menus but went
nuts trying. I could just ignore the blue underlines but seeing them makes me so
agressive ...

Thanks for any help!

Re: making \citep the default natbib citation style?

2010-03-16 Thread Justin Wood
I've done some more reading of natbib itself (the included pdf) -- it's
pretty clear that if natbib is set to *author-year* style, then the standard
\cite command behaves as \citet; if set to *numerical *style, \cite behaves
as \citep.

You can see this in LyX when using natbib under Document -> Settings ->
Bibliography: Citation style. If Natbib is chosen and set to author-year,
the LyX source code shows citations as \citet; if you change that setting to
numerical, the source code updates them to \citep. So I take this to mean
that LyX is using \cite, err, 'internally', and the source output reflects
the implementation in the natbib package.

Is it possible to control this in LyX somehow; to tell LyX to issue \citep
explicitly and never use \cite? Can a natbib .cfg or .sty file change the

\addtokomafont{caption}{\smaller}

in the preamble, but this command does not touch the leading space. If, for
instance, the main document is 12pt one-half space, I end up with ugly
looking and space-eating widely spaced captions.

Does anyone know how to solve the problem? I could not find the answer in
the Koma-script manual.

Thanks,

S.

When the biblatex styles creates some op. cit, ibid., etc. it needs a new
latex run ro get the cross-references right. LyX does not understand that.
Maybe in the 2.0 version it is fixed, but I don't know.

The only workaround is to export your article when finished and run it
through latex and bibtex the appropriate number of times to produce a pdf.
