Do you have MiKTeX installed (or any other LaTeX distribution)? Have
you tried performing Tools > Reconfigure in LyX?

Hi Liviu,

I am running Lyx 2.0 on Windows. I did as you suggested, saving the file in

I had print screen the error message for your kind attention.

The screenshot is not very informative. Could you do the following:
- File> New from template> letter.lyx (double check the spelling of 'letter')
- View (pdflatex)
- If it still gives errors, please post Document> LaTeX log.

Liviu

When I was using Lyx1.6, I did not face this problem. My hard drive had
crashed a few days back and I was only able to find Lyx 2.0 online.
You help is very appreciated.

Thank you

What should I do ?

I assume you're on Windows. If so, then File>Save as and then put it
in a folder that contains no spaces, such as C:\tmp. Then it might
work.

Hi guys,

When I load letter.lyx There was a pop up with the following message:

Lyx: Document class not available
The selected document class letter requires external files that are not
available. The document class can still be used, but the document cannot
be compiled until the following prerequisites are installed: letter.cls

Later when I try view(pdflatex)

File name error message pop up.

How do I install letter.cls?

Thank you very much for you help.

David,

Yes, Thomas dropped support for tetex last year. Since it worked for me I
saw no need to change. However, my needs have changed so I transitioned to
TeXLive.

Glad to see there are no issues with which I need to be concerned.

Much appreciated,

a5paper for tufte book class

2011-07-17 Thread Kulkarni Shantanu
Hi,
Tufte book class docs say a5paper is not supported and one has to use the
geometry package. But geometry is already loaded by lyx. How do I pass
options to it later? I did \geometry{a5paper} but that made the
formatting extremly bad (I had already written 20 pages in Tufte default
mode).
If I give "a5paper"  in Documents->Settings->Document Class->Option,
does it trickle down to the geometry package?
The Documents->Settings->Page Layout->Paper Format is also greyed out
with A4.

Thanks in advance.

Some people used to claim that, if enough monkeys sat in front of
enough typewriters and typed long enough, eventually one of them would
reproduce the collected works of Shakespeare. The internet has
proven this not to be the case.

Perhaps we were a bit cryptic about the value of templates.

A template is a means, not an end. As soon as you finish tailoring the
sketch of a document (using the class that you've chosen) to your
likes, then you're good to go: start writing and filling it up with
actual content. When you finish writing the document and you're ready
to submit it, if you are happy with the looks of the final output and
anticipate to create such documents later, _then_ you may consider
carving out of it a template, put it into the LyX templates folder (or
any other folder, for the matter), and re-use whenever the needs
arise.

Again, templates are optional. If you manage to create a sketch (of a
document) that you like, then go on and write up the entire document.
Later on decide if you need it as a template.

Cheers
Liviu
