insert index entry -- get spurious group closing symbol
Greetings ! I just started trying to use lyx. Compiled from source. Have version 2.0.3 Brand new document. One page long. All defaults. Make a table. Type some names in a column. Then insert index entry after names, using cut and paste of name into index. After doing this I get message about spurious group closing symbol. I look in file, and the nesting of layout and inset is crossed up. I am not doing anything special. This seems like a pretty major bug. Is it just me ? Or are other people having same problems ? I looked in the bug tracker(lyx.org/trac) and didn't see anything recent with this kind of symptom. Thanks much, Bert Douglas

InsertBox, configure with right-click on the handle (width = columnwidth). And if you're doing a lot of these, it'll definitely be worth defining a paragraph layout that will do this automatically. Richard Can you point me to an example please ? You guys are really helpful. Nobody has complained about my stupid questions. Thanks, Bert Douglas

keep all lines of paragraph together
I am making a membership list with two columns. There is one paragraph for each member. Each paragraph is 2 or 3 lines long, on rare occasions 4 lines. Naturally the member with 4 line entry landed at the bottom of a column and got split. This is undesirable. How can I keep all lines of a paragraph together? Have read a bunch of entries in old mailing lists on how to do this. Tried \nopagebreak. This fails when I try to process to PDF. Not recognized keyword. Same for \samepage. Same for \filbreak Obviously I am something of a beginner, and have no idea how to pursue this. Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bert Douglas

Re: formatting problem
Ok. That did it. Guess I am too menu oriented. Thanks. rgheck wrote: On 09/27/2009 12:08 AM, Bert Douglas wrote: Trying to get following: -- non-justified paragraphs (ragged right) -- two columns -- no indent -- small skip between paragraphs This is for membership list type of document. Problem is that there is unwanted coupling between the justification and the vertical paragraph spacing. When I set left justification in paragraph properties, I get an extra (unwanted) full line spacing between paragraphs. Can you please post a simple example of how you are trying to do this? If you're trying to do it paragraph by paragraph, that's definitely not the way to go. Try putting \raggedright in ERT at the beginning of the document, to set justification. rh
