Re: Skim 1.4.37 resets to first page after updating PDF (LyX 2.3.1, Mac OS 10.11.6)
Thank you for your reply and suggestion, It didn’t occur to me to check anything on the Skim webpage. Then, lo and behold, I found a thread on the problem I have been experiencing: https://sourceforge.net/p/skim-app/bugs/1276/ <https://sourceforge.net/p/skim-app/bugs/1276/> . It appears that the bug will be fixed in a future release of Skim, but for now, I downloaded Version 1.4.36: Skim-1.4.36 <https://sourceforge.net/projects/skim-app/files/Skim/Skim-1.4.36/> , which seems to work correctly (i.e., PDF updates don’t shift page position). For good measure (and only until the problem is fixed), in Skim Preferences >> General, I set “Check for Skim updates:” to “Never”. I don’t have to pull hairs in the mean time! :-) Best regards, Daisuke > On Nov 14, 2018, at 11:59 PM, Dr Eberhard Lisse wrote: > > I note the same on 10.14.1 and it is annoying me too, but this is a > change in Skim behavior after a Skim update so what do the developers of > Skim say, on the Skim list? > > greetings, el > > On 2018-11-15 06:23 , Daisuke Koya wrote: >> Hello Macintosh LyX users, >> >> After updating Skim to Version 1.4.37, when I update a PDF in LyX >> 2.3.1, the document resets to the first page. Skim 1.4.37 resets to first page after updating PDF (LyX 2.3.1, Mac OS 10.11.6)
Hello Macintosh LyX users, After updating Skim to Version 1.4.37, when I update a PDF in LyX 2.3.1, the document resets to the first page. I’m using Mac OS 10.11.6. This is annoying to say the least, as I have to repeatedly scroll to where corrections were made. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I did try to remedy the problem in my own way, which was to install MacTeX 2018, but this made no difference. I believe I set up viewing files in Skim correctly, as it worked like a champ until the application was updated. I would be very pleased if someone could share their knowledge on how to fix the problem. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Daisuke
Problem with sorting nomenclature entries...
Hello LyX experts, I am experiencing a problem with sorting nomenclature entries. I am trying to sort the entries, RMS, RMSE, and RMSE*, in this order. However, what I get instead is: RMSE* RMSE RMS I have tried changing the sort order using the "Sort as:" field in the "LyX: nomenclature" window and the "noprefix" option, to no avail. When I used the "Sort as:" field, the entries were relegated to the bottom of the glossary list. I have read the nomencl documentation (http://sarovar.org/projects/nomencl), but still could not figure out how to get the desired sort order. Is there any way I can get the following sort order in one sweep, perhaps by specifying an option? RMS RMSE RMSE* I apologize if I did not explain my problem well, as I have only minimal understanding of what I am doing. Thank you very much in advance if someone has a solution. Daisuke
Re: Is LyX 2.1.1 compatible with Mac OS X Yosemite?
Thank you for your help Steve, I just saw that there was a 2.1.2 update for LyX, and downloaded that right away. I now know that LyX 2.1.2 works with Mac OS 10.10. That's good to know. Hello Scott, Thank you for taking time to answer my question. I confirmed that your file vertically centres multirow cell content. However, cell entries in my table (file attached) are not vertically centred. Hello all, I didn't know that there was a flood of help! I found this accidentally by reading the archives. Thank you all very much. Is there a way to ensure receiving posts related to the original question in your e-mail inbox? Anyhow, I solved my problem by myself by copying and pasting random text from the fancyhdr documentation, and then reshaping it until the stars aligned. I know nothing about LaTeX, but this is the code in the preamble that worked in the end (that is, moulded the default, italicised, all-capital, serif header text into non-italicised, title-case, san-serif text). \lhead{\sffamily{\nouppercase{\rightmark}}} Best regards, Daisuke

Thank you Stephan for replying with help. I've attached the modified mac.bind file. mac_daisuke.bind Description: Binary data I have read the user's guide, but couldn't understand it well. Anyhow, I could add a keyboard shortcut for "note-insert" in LyX:Preferences >> Editing >> Shortcuts, but not for inserting comments because the function didn't exist. Therefore, the following code (among others) I found on the Internet was appended to the mac.bind file: \bind "C-S-I c" "note-insert Comment" . However, I may have inserted the new code in the wrong place as LyX started to crash after I specified the modified mac.bind file in LyX:Preferences. Many thanks in advance to those offering help (or other encouragement). Help with paragraph breaks on LyX 2.0.4 (Mac)
Hello, I am using LyX 2.0.4 on Mac OS 10.7.4. I would like to know whether there is a way LyX won't break up paragraphs between pages. A cursory web search showed that older versions of LyX had a window to specify paragraph breaks, but I can't seem to find it in the current version. I would appreciate any help please. Thank you very much, Daisuke

Re: Table cell widths are wrong and cannot be changed from LyX 1.6.10 to 2.0.0
You've helped me before Richard, so thank you again. Since my first posting, I've found out what the culprit was which was causing funny things in my table floats. This seems to do with inserting the \usepackage{pdfsync} LaTeX code in the preamble. When I removed the above code, the funny stretching of my tables stopped, although this means I cannot perform reverse searching any more. For now, I will do without reverse-searching capabilities in exchange for correctly-rendered tables. Is my Preamble interfering with compiling my LyX document?
Hello, I am using LyX 1.6.10 on Mac OS 10.6.7. It took me a year until someone on this forum pointed out that stuff accumulated in my preamble was causing subfloats to not work properly. I know nothing about LaTeX, and the following code in the preamble was cobbled together by random snippets of code I either found on the Internet or shown by colleagues. If it's no trouble for the LaTeX and LyX experts on this forum, could someone please tell me which bits of the code below might cause errors in creating documents in LyX? I also recently found out that some of the functionality in the preamble could be specified in LyX: Document Settings. Is it better to use the Document Settings to specify certain aspects of the LyX document rather than doing this in the preamble? Re: Is my Preamble interfering with compiling my LyX document?
Hello Richard, Thank you very much for your detailed help. I will remove the bits of code that might give conflicts. The code in the LaTeX preamble did have comments, but I've removed them in my post because some of them contained names of colleagues. Regarding the fancyhdr package, could you please tell me how this can be installed in LyX? I went to what I believe is the web page where this package is downloaded, but I couldn't find any installation instructions for LyX. Again, I appreciate the help, Daisuke Koya On 27 May 2011, at 13:32, Richard Heck wrote: On 05/27/2011 07:00 AM, Daisuke Koya wrote: Hello, I am using LyX 1.6.10 on Mac OS 10.6.7. I also recently found out that some of the functionality in the preamble could be specified in LyX: Document Settings. Is it better to use the Document Settings to specify certain aspects of the LyX document rather than doing this in the preamble? Generally, yes, because LyX will try to handle conflicts for you, and you do not have to worry about which packages are being loaded in which order, etc. Now \usepackage{calc} \usepackage{amsfonts} \@ifundefined{definecolor}{\usepackage{color}}{} I doubt you need to load these. \usepackage{array} \usepackage{hhline} \usepackage{hyperref}\hypersetup{pdftex,colorlinks=true,linkcolor=blue,citecolor=blue,filecolor=blue,urlcolor=blue,pdftitle=,pdfauthor=,pdfsubject=,pdfkeywords=} You are better off using the hyperref support in DocumentSettings. \setlength{\voffset}{-1in}\setlength{\hoffset}{-1in} \setlength{\topmargin}{2.27cm} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{2.27cm} \setlength{\textheight}{24.259cm} \setlength{\textwidth}{16.5cm} \setlength{\footskip}{2.0cm} \setlength{\headheight}{0cm} \setlength{\headsep}{0cm} \setlength{\skip\footins}{0.119cm} Paper size and margins can be set in DocumentSettings. \renewcommand{\footnoterule}{\vspace*{-0.018cm}\setlength\leftskip{0pt}\setlength\rightskip{0pt plus 1fil}\noindent\textcolor{black}{\rule{0.25\columnwidth}{0.018cm}}\vspace*{0.101cm}} \makeatletter\newcommand{\ps@Standard}{ \renewcommand\@oddhead{} \renewcommand\@evenhead{} \renewcommand\@oddfoot{} \renewcommand\@evenfoot{} \renewcommand\thepage{\arabic{page}} }\makeatother You are better off using the fancyhdr package, I'd think, to do this. \title{}\author{}\date{} \usepackage[sf,raggedright,toctitles]{titlesec} \usepackage{multirow} \renewcommand{\multirowsetup}{\centering} LyX has support for multirow in 2.0.x. \hyphenpenalty=5000 \tolerance=1000 \renewcommand{\thetable}{\arabic{table}} \numberwithin{table}{section} These should be harmless. rh

Number Tables by Section in Document Settings doesn't work
Hello All, I am using LyX 1.6.10 for Macintosh. My problem is that I would like my tables to be numbered as Table section.number . Therefore, I've selected the Number Tables by Section Module under LyX: Document Settings, but it does not seem to have the same effect as inserting the following code in the LaTeX Preamble \numberwithin{table}{section} . Could someone please tell me whether the above Module is working properly, or should I stick to inserting code in the LaTeX Preamble? Thank you very much, Daisuke Koya

cocoAspell stops working after encountering accented characters
Hello All, I am using LyX 1.6.8 on Mac OS 10.6.6. I am also using cocoAspell for spell checking. How do I assign a keyboard shortcut to view and update PDFs?
Hello, I am a LyX newbie using LyX 1.6.8 on Mac OS 10.6.6, so I apologise in advance that I might not be able to express my problem with the best description. I use Skim.app to view my PDFs in LyX, and would like to know how I can assign a keyboard shortcut to this function to view and update PDFs. I read somewhere else in this forum that I could set a shortcut by to view PDFs by configuring buffer-view pdf2 but I cannot find this under LyX: Preferences Editing Shortcuts The Bind file loaded is mac.bind. When I hover over the View PDF (pdflatex) and Update PDF (pdflatex) buttons on the LyX toolbar, I can see that no keyboard shortcut has been assigned to them. Any help in how to assign keyboard shortcuts to these two buttons would be appreciated. Thank you very much. Daisuke Koya

Multirow table cell contents overflow beyond cell borders
Hello, I'm using LyX 1.6.8 on Mac OS 10.6.6. The problem I'm having is that contents of a multirow table overflow beyond the cell borders. Normally when this type of thing happens, I insert a vertical space (VFill) to keep the cell contents within its borders, which is a fix I encountered by chance. However, for these particular table cells, this method doesn't work. The table cells in question have three columns on the first row, and seven columns in the second row. The middle-five columns out of the seven in the second row are under a multi-column cell consisting of five middle columns on the first row. The multirow cells are the left-most and right-most cells, which span two rows each. I believe the above description was not very clear, but in any case, I would appreciate if there are any general tips on how to take care of the contents of multirow table cells that overflow from its borders. Thank you very much. Daisuke Koya

Thank you Uwe, I have found that some of the IEEE formatting is similar to what I need for ISO 690 that the Audio Engineering Society uses. How do I apply the ISO 690 reference style to my bibliography listings? (Mac LyX user)
Hello all, I would like to know how I can format my reference listing in the ISO 690 style using the Mac version of LyX. I am using Bookends as a reference manager, and have created a .bib file containing all my references, but the formatting is incorrect for my requirements. I am aware that there is something called a .bst file for LaTeX reference formatting, but am unsure where to locate and how to modify this file. I'm guessing that this .bst file is to be in the LaTeX preamble somewhere. Any assistance in this regard would be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Daisuke (DICE-KAY)
