algorithm

2004-07-02 Thread Frederic Leymarie
Hi there

I used the algorithm package (algo-0.3)
and with an algo floating box,
I cannot control its position on the page
and it leaves empty space above and below
(I.e., the algo box is centered).

I need to use that blank space to put a table.

Any idea how I can force lyx to use the space?

section and figure heads

2003-03-27 Thread Frederic Leymarie
Hi

I am using the article format with 10pt times fonts.

I need to change the defaults for the look of the section and figure
headers.
I need to reduce the size of the section heads defaults so that it
is 12pt boldface (not 14pt)
I also need to have a dot "." after the section number

I need to also reduce to 12pt the "Referenced" header.

For figures, I need the "Figure x." to be in 10 pt helvetica boldface
with a dot "." not a colon (the default),
and the caption to be helvetica 10pt.

Same thing for tables.

I looked at the lyx tricks website but could not find such details.

thanks

Re: formatting page numbers

2002-12-07 Thread Frederic Leymarie
Hi there,

here is how I fixed my problem (in case it helps others):

   - in my thesis.layout file I had to reset
PageStyle Headers

and comment out :

#ClassOptions
#PageStyle "plain"
#Other "defaultstyle"
#End

then you can select fancyheaders page style from LyX

 - in the preamble

\fancyhead{} % delete the defaults
\fancyhead[RE,RO]{\thepage } % Sets Right handside of header
%% (Even and Odd numbered pages)
\fancyfoot{} % clear

While accentuation TeX commands like {\'e} {\^o}, etc. work fine

PS: It would be nice to have a GUI with accentuated characters,

and maybe one with fancy decorated characters.
Something like a pop-up window with a keyboard-like interface
would be nice too.

Hi

I wanted to have a centered footer with page number
followed by "of n", where "n" is the max number of page (or last page)
of the document.

How can I do this?

I am running LyX version 1.1.5fix1 of Jul.18 2000.

Also, I looked at the Help pages,
and tried the recommended
\cfoot{\thepage of 2}
for example,
but this produces errors (undefined control sequence).
In fact, even
\cfoot{}
in the preamble fails

Any idea why?

1- How to remove the automatic numbering of algorithms (floats) ?
(and either leave it blank with just the word Algorithm preceding the
caption,
or with a parameter to specify explicitly the number or label I want )

2- How to have comments after "endfor" printed ?

3- Is there a way to have margin notes work within the algorithm float?

4- Is there a way to have vertical lines, on the LHS, displayed to link
the beginning and end of a loop (e.g., for endfor ) ?

How to ... gain space

2000-10-07 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Hi

How to gain space or change the defaults spacing between:

1- figures (float) and text
2- figure caption and their figures proper
3- reduce default spacing between section heads and text (before or after)

Using a new class

2000-09-15 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Greetings

I have to use a class provided by Springer Verlag for LaTeX2e
llncs.cls

I am only given this class file; from:

http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html

I have tried input this file from my preamble in LyX but that does not do the trick.

What do I need to do to make this class features available in my LyX (article)
document?
e.g., the command \institute is defined in there.

thanks

footnotes & figures at the end of a MS

2000-08-22 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Folks

How to have all my footnotes listed after the main text
and before the references ?

Also, how to have all my figures, after the references ?

And, finally, how to have the figure captions listed (with the
associated figure numbers) separately, after or before the figures ?

This is for submitting a paper to British Archaeopress, which
has very specific requirements.

Thanks

inserting real space/lines

1999-10-12 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Folks

How can I turn off in LyX the feature that erases blank lines
automatically ??

I need to have these blank lines: it helps me think about the text
on-line and then insert new text between paragraphs.

In fact, I would also like to print the document
with these inserted blank lines.

I am using version 1.0.3pre4 (May 21, 1999)

cheers

spreadsheet & graphs

Hi

Is there an (UNIX) application that would implement a Spreadsheet
(alike Excel) based on La/TeX ??
(I would like to be able to export easily the resulting tables
to LyX documents).

Also, what is a good (UNIX) tool to produce flow-charts,
and simple graphs, that can be inserted in LyX (as figures I guess)?

combining portrait and landscape

1999-08-24 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Dear LyXers

Here is my problem:
I have a document containing tables,
some of which fit on Portrait (vertical orientation)
but with others fitting only in Landscape mode
(large horizontal tables).

How can I generate the PostScript version
with the right combination of portrait and
landscape modes?

When I go in the "Paper Layout" menu,
the "Portrait" / "Landscape" option
has a global effect on the document (apparently).

Thanks for your insights. ...

My text is "justified" on both sides by default.
(i.e., the text is spaced so that each full line
takes the same amount of space, like the text I
am writing right now ).

In the margin I get the same behavior, but
that is not what I want ...
(what I want the margin to be left
justified, like this paragraph..., with
no extra space between words/characters)

Margins style

1999-05-04 Thread Frederic Leymarie

Dear Lyrical people :)

A question when using margins (and geometry package).
I can reset the margin size no problem.
But, how to change the justification of only the (side) margins?

I would like to keep my main text justified,
but have the (right) margins left-justified.

LaTeX vs XML/SGML/MathML

1999-04-09 Thread Frederic Leymarie

A few days ago there were 1 or 2 postings on LaTeX vs Markup Languages
and the eventual support (or not) of XML by LyX.

I just read an article in the last IEEE Spectrum magazine
(http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/)
of April on "Math on the Internet" and the new MathML standard
(e.g. now supported by Mathematica)

What about LyX exporting (and importing?) to (from) MathML ??
