Here is a small .lyx file. If I preview it or export it to pdf the line
lengths are ragged, but if I export it to .tex and then run latex I get good

Can anybody help me? Is this a bug?

I often find myself looking through several manuals trying to find information.
It would be much better if I could make a single search of all manuals. Maybe

This took me a while because of working with two apps.

Here are a Latex file

MWE.tex
Description: Binary data
and what LyX imports

MWE.lyx
Description: Binary data
. The Lyx file is too short. Also it does not compile because of an extra brace
related to the equation. If you erase the brace everything works. In particular
we get the whole LyX file.

I can understand that we may get some Latex errors from the importing process,
but why do we lose text in the LyX file?

 0.0.0.1 Example 2: Inheritance
This is the LyX-Code environment, at level #1, the outermost

I use this for most papers in the sense (a). Why delete it? Note that
“Acknowledgment” is suggested in the amsthm instructions—just like “Lemma".

The \theoremstyle command
The amsthm package supports the notion of a current theorem style, which
determines what will be produced by a given \newtheorem command. The three
theorem styles provided—plain, definition, and remark—specify different degrees
of visual emphasis corresponding to their relative importance. The details of
this typographical treatment may vary depending on the document class, but
typically the plain style produces italic body text, while the other two styles
produce roman body text. These default settings are provided:
• plain : italic text, extra space above and below;
• definition : upright text, extra space above and below; • remark : upright
text, no extra space above or below.
If no \theoremstyle command is given, the style used will be plain. To specify
different styles, divide your \newtheorem commands into groups and preface each
group with the appropriate \theoremstyle. Some examples:
  \theoremstyle{plain}% default
  \newtheorem{thm}{Theorem}[section]
  \newtheorem{lem}[thm]{Lemma}
  \newtheorem{prop}[thm]{Proposition}
  \newtheorem*{cor}{Corollary}
  \newtheorem*{KL}{Klein’s Lemma}
  \theoremstyle{definition}
  \newtheorem{defn}{Definition}[section]8
Using the amsthm package
4.2
Number swapping
\newtheorem{exmp}{Example}[section]
\newtheorem{xca}[exmp]{Exercise}
\theoremstyle{remark}
\newtheorem*{rem}{Remark}
\newtheorem*{note}{Note}
\newtheorem{case}{Case}
The following list summarizes the types of structures which are normally
associated with each theorem style.

How to make LyX work with Mac OS 13.1?

All -

I just upgraded to Mac OS 13.1. I was not given a chance to install python. How
do I check if I have the right version of python?

I cannot reconfigure LyX. I get the message: The system reconfiguration has
failed. Default textclass is used but LyX may not be able to work properly.
Please reconfigure again if needed.

Reconfiguring again does not work either.

Also, I have a bind file that LyX finds, but does not use. Is this because LyX
needs to be reconfigured?

I tried reinstalling LyX, but that did not help.

What should I do next?

This excellent explanation was also very useful to me.

Looking on Google, it seems that I should just copy the User Folder. I think on
Mac this means the whole LyX-2.3 folder; this is what the "about file" says the
UserDir is. I will try it tomorrow.

I still have the question about possibly syncing new short cuts or other
changes.

Setting up LyX on a new computer

2022-03-16 Thread Hal Kierstead via lyx-users
All -

I have many preference settings that I would like to transfer to a new MacBook
Pro. What is the approved way to do this? Can I just copy the preference file
and bind file in Application Support/LyX-2.3 from one computer to the other or
what? Maybe I could copy the whole LyX-2.3 folder? Along the same lines, what
is the best way to keep my LyX setup consistent across several computers. I use
dropbox to sync files.

Thanks,

I am sorry, but I do not understand this. First, I do:

> Document > Settings > Child Document from the master, include only
> the desired child and click "Maintain counters and references”.

And save it. But if I (immediately) check again the setting is back to “Include
all children”. When I view the master document, I get the whole document
correctly.

Suppose I want to edit the included Chapter 2. I can right click on it in the
master, to open the LyX version of the included file, and make changes. Now I
would like to view those changes, with proper references, citations, and
numbering. “View master document” gives an error. “Buffer-view pdf” does not
show the references, citations, and numbering.

Am I hoping for too much or am I doing something wrong?

I have similar questions, but almost no experience with child documents.
Ideally I would like to be able to first compile the entire document, and then
edit and compile a child document, separately from the rest of the master
document, but still see citations and reference numbers as they will appear
when the entire document is compiled. Can LyX manage this? If not would this be
a reasonable enhancement request?

Thanks,

Hal
