TOC questions

2001-11-15 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

I'm still stuck with the problem I posted couple of days before and can not
find a solution for it. The problem is that I don't want the content entry
in the TOC. I have 2 included files before TOC and 8 files after that, and I
have no idea how to remove the entry from the TOC. My experience with Latex is
limited to Lyx and what I have learned from this list, so ...
I have tried to change my document class from book to report with no success.
Does anyone out there has a solution for this?

Thank you,
-Mohammad

Page format questions

2001-11-13 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

I'm using book class layout with plain page style for my dissertation (multipart
document). I'm doing to final formatting required by grad school and I have two
questions:

1- How can I remove the content entry from the table of content?
2- How can I have the page numbers printed at lower (or upper) right hand side
for all pages (not centered).

Thanks,
-Mohammad

Paragraph question

2001-10-10 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

In a book style multi-part document, how can I force block layout? I have a
lyx file inserted at the beginning of my thesis with centered layout. For some
reason, all the succeeding files are centered too. Selecting them and using
layoutparagraphblock won't change the style. In the applet, it shows that
block layout is selected but the output is centered.

Page numbering question

2001-10-01 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

I have a multi-part document. It is separated in the master document by
\frontmatter%, \mainmatter% and \backmatter%. The document is from the
book class. In the frontmatter, I have bunch of files inserted and I inserted my
abstract using include method right after list of tables (abstract is the last
file in frontmatter). Now, I have two problems:

1- The page numbers in TOC for the abstract are the same as the LOT, i.e. both
are xi, where LOT should be xi and the abstract should be xii.

2- The abstract is two pages long. In the second page of abstract, the header
shows List of Tables instead of abstract, which gives me the impression that
lyx did not realize that LOT has been finished and a new file was included.

How can I solve these problems?

Thanks,

Question about tables

Hi,

I have a float table in my document, 5 columns, 6 rows. When I type the text in

to use protected carriage returns in the table fields to make the text in two
lines but that doesn't work in table environment. Please guide me to solve this

TOC question

I'm writing my thesis using LyX and I have a multipart document. The graduate
school requires us to have abstract, dedication, and acknowledgement before
the TOC but they should be included in the TOC. Now, in my main file, I have
each one inserted as a separate file and following them I have my TOC. The TOC
only shows the chapters AFTER the place it was inserted, i.e. TOC, List of
Figures, Intro, Chap 1, ... My questions is how can I force TOC to include
everything including the sections that are inserted before the TOC?

Thanks,

Bibliography question

2001-01-19 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

I've recently upgraded my Lyx to 1.1.6 and I have the following problem with
inserting bibliography citations.

Let's say I have a master document with several chapters as sub-files inserted
to it. I put the BibTex generated references in the master document. Now in
sub-files, when I want to add a citation, I can't since the BibTex references
are inserted in the master doc and aren't viewable by sub-files (all of the
files are open).

In previous versions, I had the option to type in the index of the citation
(assuming that I know it) in sub-files. LaTex would find it and create the
correct citation reference. In "Insert Citation Reference" of 1.1.6, I can't
type anything in (it should be taken from the existing list). My question is:
should I use Tex to insert citations or there is another way to do this?

Thanks,
M

BibTex question

2000-11-19 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

I have a LyX file with BibTex entries and everything works fine. Now here is
my question:

When I add citation references, they appear in Bibliography section in the
order which I inserted them. I would like to have my Bibliography ordered
alphabetically (based on the first author's last name). How should I approach
this? The reference numbers in the actual document don't have to be
chronological.

Also, I like to have all entries in my BibTex database in my Bibliography, not
only the ones which are cited. How should I do this?

Thanks,
MRD.

RE: BibTex question

2000-11-19 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

"ieeetr" is my BibTex style.

When I put the \cite*, still the referenced citings come at the beginning of
the Bibliography.

For example my first reference in the document refers to a person with a last
name starting with "K". The bibliography's first reference will be this entry
plus the rest of the dB records, in the order which they are stored in the
BibTex dB.

Thanks,
MRD

Figure and Eq. numbers

2000-11-04 Thread Mohammad Reza Danesh

Hi,

I'm a beginner with Lyx, so I apologize if this is an easy question.

I have a master document plus several chapters inserted in it. Now in each
chapter, I have several figures and equations and I want them to be numbered
as "Chapter#-Fig#), for example figure 3 in chapter 4 should be numbered as
Fig. 4-3.

In my case, all figures (and equations) are numbered from 1 to ... through out
the whole document without the chapter numbers. The TOC (inserted in the
Master Doc. shows the chapters properly, so I think I have the structure right
but I can't get the Fig numbers right. Can someone tell me what setting should
I change?

Thanks,
MRD
