John Hello and thanks i found what was the problem, i went into preferences->files and unselected the "vectorial graphic" option in pdflatex.. then the size became 9Mb.. i hope this won't cause printing problems.. interesting behaviour
I noticed an interesting behaviour: If i make a document with lyx in ubuntu hardy, the pdf that comes out is around 9Mb if i do in debian lenny, the pdf that comes out is 20Mb! of course both the sources are the same! what could cause this???
pagenumbering
Hi all i am paginating my thesis with lyx, i divided the document into many child documents and made a page called Thesis which joins together (by putting add child document one after the other). Now, while the first pages, which uses roman numbering show correct placement of the number (on the bottom outside), the following child document, which uses arabic page numbering is performing incorrectly, by putting the page numbering in the wrong side of the page. Is there any way to make lys fix this? Thanks Assa

Hello i have the need to make a table filled with math formulas, the formulas are too big so they have to be split in 2 or 3 row for each box of the table, however, is i do by ctrl-enter, then the pdf doesn't compile.. What is the correct procedure for having multi line math formulas in tables? Thanks Assa
change page order for "parts"
Hello i was wondering if is possible to tell LyX, to impaginate following this rule: the page bearing the Part I, Part II or similar, should be always the front side of a sheet, since at the moment i have "part" pages in the back side of the sheet as well (i am printing double side). I am not sure i am clear enough, but i will try to use a more specific language: I want the "part" to be always printed in the recto of the paper sheet, NEVER it should end up in the verso.. importing a ps file into lyx
I am wondering if is possible to import a PS file into lyx, i have a 3 page ps file, i tried to import as child document but is not the right way i can import as image, but it shows only the 1st page.. how can i make it import and show it fully? Thanks Agostino

How to fix modernCV in Debian and derivates..
Hello everyone probably some of you have noticed that the modernCV template doesn't compile in debian etch, testing, and ubuntu. I posted the bug and got no feedback so i found a workaround for that: first of all download the CTAN modernCV package http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/moderncv.html then unpack it in /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/moderncv (of course don't unpack the readme files and the examples directory) then as root run: texhash reconfigure lyx and your modernCV will be working perfectly. How to have numbered equations using KOMA scripts.
Hi everyone i found that lyx is an excellent tool for writing for academics papers, however, while i am pretty satisfied with the floating tables, and floating pictures, i still couldn't find a way to have all my equations numbered (not showing in the summary but just numbered) Most of the time i just put an equation or two in between my writing, i do using the Math display function, so i end up with a nice equation centered in the page, but that is not numbered... i would like it will be automatically numbered according to the part, chapter and so on.. is that possible? Hi everyone i saw most ppl are using koma scripts, i suppose they are sort of template for LyX, i googled them a bit and found a big GERMAN website about it.. but my knowledge of german is 0, is there somewhere else i should look? Thanks

This depends in part upon what document class you are using. But
something like
\date{}
should just set the date to an empty string.
yes i figured out by using the macro "date" and putting a space on it..

the setup i need to use is pretty funny:
headers and title in the middle
a picture
then on the left my name, and on the right the teachers names..
then a line and the year...
I think is best i make it as standard text!

Hi everyone i am a new user, i am writing my degree thesis in lyx since i don't want to use Word (the results with lyx are far better) However i incurred in 3 problem that i need to solve if i want to make EVERYthing in lyx: 1. I should use a particular position for the inscription of the first page, the title should be in the middle, and the authors should be on the left and right...Title works fine, but authors wants to put in the middle as well...I tried to use standard, but then they switch to the next page..this is unacceptable. So i need to know how can i force them to be all in the same page, or how to relax the restrictions on the position of text for the Author field. 2. I don't want the date to be added automatically at the end of every chapter i make, how can i remove it? 3. seems to me that defskip, smallskip, bigskip don't work usually unless i "protect" them...is this fine?
