Is the Red Hat Enterprise Linux based on Red Hat Linex 9?

If yes, then it should work.

Read the instructions in
http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/

The rpm for lyx is:
http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/9/RPMS.stable/lyx-1.3.5-0.fdr.2.rh90.i386.rpm

But probably it depends on the new version of qt from the same site.

We are pleased to announce the release of LyX 1.3.5.
This is mainly a bugfix release, with few notable user-visible
improvements. However, we would like to highlight two fixes in particular:
 * Nested documents (with Insert>Include File...), which have been
broken since LyX 1.2.0, should now work properly, including the
case where the files are in different directories.
 * It is now possible to compile LyX with gcc 3.4.
The complete list of improvements and fixes can be found at the end of
this message.
In case you are wondering what LyX is, here is what
http://www.lyx.org/ has to say on the subject:
LyX is an advanced open source document processor that encourages
an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents,
not their appearance. LyX lets you concentrate on writing, leaving
details of visual layout to the software.
LyX runs on many Unix platforms, OS/2, and under Windows/Cygwin
(this port requires an X server). It can also run natively on Mac
OS X, thanks to the Qt/Mac library.
You can download LyX 1.3.5 here (the .bz2 are compressed with bzip2,
which yields smaller files):
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.bz2
ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/lyx-1.3.5.tar.bz2
and it should propagate shortly to the following mirrors (which will also host
the .bz2 versions):
   ftp://ftp.sdsc.edu/pub/other/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
   ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
   ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/publishing/tex/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
   ftp://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/X11/LyX/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
   ftp://ftp.icm.edu.pl/vol/rzm0/lyx/stable/lyx-1.3.5.tar.gz
Prebuilt binaries (mainly rpms for linux distributions) should soon be
available at
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.3.5/
If you already have the LyX 1.3.4 sources, you may want to apply one
of the following patches instead
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/patch-1.3.5.gz
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/patch-1.3.5.bz2
If you find what you think is a bug in LyX 1.3.5, you may either
e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), or open
a bug report at http://bugzilla.lyx.org
If you're having trouble using the new version of LyX, or have a question,
first check out http://www.lyx.org/help/. If you can't find the answer there,
e-mail the LyX users' list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
Enjoy!
The LyX team.

Springer Verlag journals for which no specific class exists.
- Add a new bindings file mac.bind for LyX/Mac.

Sure. ftp is just a 'File Transfer Protocol', nothing more. If you
put the file at pub/incoming, then that is where it is, not at
pub/lyx/bin. No doubt, Jean-Marc will transfer your file to
pub/lyx/bin in due course.

Angus,

The upload of the file is now done. However, I do not see the file at:

ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/

being this address the address from which people is supposed to
download the binaries of LyX.

It is back up now. To shove your rpm in, you'll need to to something
like:

$ ftp ftp.devel.lyx.org
Connected to aussie.lyx.org.
220 (vsFTPd 1.2.0)
331 Please specify the password.
230 Login successful.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> cd pub/incoming
250 Directory successfully changed.
ftp> bin
200 Switching to Binary mode.
ftp> put lyx-1.3.5-mandrake10.rpm
ftp>

Note that pub/incoming is a write-only directory, so you won't be
able to see any files in there. Don't forget to ensure that you're
using 'Binary mode'...

upload it to ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/incoming.
