(2) Regarding keyboard input, you need to do two things together: also change the keyboard input, and also switch the language (F12 with dekel's bindings). See http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.devel/74576/focus=74622 for details. Note that it's no longer necessary to recompile in order to get the correct encodings, but you may still want to play around with cp1255/auto/default. HTH! Dov
