German Translation of the About/Credit popup

2008-11-12 Thread istvanst

Hi,
first of all i love lyx.
Thank you for this piece of heaven of software.
But in the german translation under the About/Credit popup
there is a section Ruhm und Ehre
I would request to change this title.
This title was the slogan of the SS during german fascism and i regard it as
a bad joke to use it.
Sure it was unintentional so please just change it.

Regards,
istvan

This is a quite common expression in every-day german. Look on amazon,
you will find a good number of book-titles with Ruhm und Ehre, for
example about literature Nobel laureates).

This title was the slogan of the SS during german fascism and i regard it as
a bad joke to use it.

Are you sure you are not confusing this with Blut und Ehre
(Hitlerjungend) and/or Meine/unsere Ehre heisst Treue (Waffen-SS)?

359.000 Google hits for the slogan, 325.000 hits for the same -SS.
Quite a few of the remaining 34.000 are about a 2004 high court ruling
that using the slogan is not illegal. So I don't think this is a big deal.

Having said that I would certainly not object to change it if one of the
developers listed there complains. But it will be difficult to create a
German translation of anything without using any words that have also
been in use at that time...

I never said that it is a banned or unique phrase but if you but it in google
8 out of 10 hits (and the first ones) have to do with the SS and Nazis.
It would be easily replaceable with Dank or Danksagung or Unser Dank
gilt: or something.
