Thanks, Jose´, but where can one get those packages? I have tried this repo: http://people.redhat.com/jnovy/files/texlive/texlive.repo However, it only contains F8 packages and none of F7. Paul

Paul Smith wrote: > How can one update pdfeTeX to a newer version? I am using Fedora Linux 7. Updating pdftex manually is a pain and difficult to get right. You should try to update the TeX distribution (either look if there is some updated Fedora package or, even better, migrate to TeXLive 2007). Jürgen

From microtype.pdf: "Note that font expansion and character protrusion will only work with pdfTEX, at least version 0.14f. Automatic font expansion requires version 1.20 or newer. Disabling ligatures requires pdfTEX 1.30, letterspacing and the adjustment of interword spacing and of kerning requires version 1.40." So with pdfTeX 1.21, you cannot use the spacing and kerning options. Jürgen

Getting errors with microtype
Dear All, When I insert the line \usepackage[expansion=false,spacing=true,kerning=true]{microtype} in the preamble, pdflatex produces errors. However, if I remove the above line, no error occurs. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Paul
