Piero,

If you have access to open type or true type fonts, you might consider using
XeLaTeX and fontspec.  I've had better success going this route than trying
to install Garamond by hand (for some reason the Ubuntu packages just don't
seem to work well for me.)

 whose
examples works perfectly without any installation using TexWorks,  but have
no idea on how to install it on MikTeX or having it working under LyX 1.6.5

The garamond package docs seems a bit confusing, referring to files which
actually don't exist and so on...
Any idea?

I'm Windows MikTeX user.
