There is nothing wrong with this. Thanks for your frank response which 
made me realize my misconception: I had the impression that marking text 
as e.g. English makes the spell checker ignore these parts when a 
German spell check is started (see OP). I was not aware that 
dictionary switching is automated via the language choice. It already 
worked the way I wanted it.
