Re: formatting problem
Ok. That did it. Guess I am too menu oriented. Thanks. rgheck wrote: On 09/27/2009 12:08 AM, Bert Douglas wrote: Trying to get following: -- non-justified paragraphs (ragged right) -- two columns -- no indent -- small skip between paragraphs This is for membership list type of document. If you're trying to do it paragraph by paragraph, that's definitely not the way to go. Try putting "\raggedright" in ERT at the beginning of the document, to set justification. rh

I hadn't noticed that yet and was making the problem much more complicated than necessary! ;-) Thanks again. Ashleigh
natbib and elsart-harv.bst citation formatting problem
Greetings and thanks to everybody who has contributed to LyX. I have been learning it for a few weeks as I write up an article for my dissertation and I love it - it makes writing fun, unlike MS word which made me pretty miserable. My setup: I am using LyX version 1.3.4. I am using the article (elsevier) document class and I installed it by creating /usr/local/share/texmf/tex/latex/elsevier and put elsart12.sty, elsart.cls, and elsart.sty in there - it wasn't clear to me which of those files I needed but the article (elsevier) layout option showed up in LyX after I ran texhash as root so I figured I was ok. I put elsart-harv.bst in /usr/share/texmf/bibtex/bst/natbib. Under Document Settings - Bibliography I have Use NatBib checked and Cite Style: Author year. In the Preamble I have only: \usepackage{natbib} \usepackage{amssymb} \bibliographystyle{elsart-harv.bst} My problem: Under the above conditions, when I make a .dvi, I get: ... the relationships of 53 species Blaxter et al. [2]. whereas I need: ... the relationships of 53 species (Blaxter et al., 1998) I have tried adding \citestyle{authoryear} to the preamble and I get: ... the relationships of 53 species Blaxter et al. (1998) I thought that the elsart-harv.bst should force the format which I am looking for - am I not actually using elsart-harv.bst then? Should I use a different \citestyle{}, or does that override the elsart-harv.bst that I'm trying to use? Thanks very much for any suggestions, I've googled this to death with no solution. Ashleigh

A big formatting problem
Hello all, I really appreciate all the help I have received on this list. I am in the final stages of my senior paper, and so far, I haven't had to use Word. However, my prof continues to challenge Lyx's formatting capabilities by adding requirements for my paper. So far, this is what I have configured: A table of contents, with no page number, on its own page and the Tex is: \thispagestyle{empty}\setcounter{page}{0}\newpage \mymulticols{2}{1cm} A two-column paper, single space, using the Article layout and the Tex before the bibliography is: \mymulticolsoff \newpage A bibliography on its own page (this doesn't show up on the TOC for some reason) Now, what I need to add are two Appendix pages, before the bibliography, one with text, the other with pictures that are referenced by my paper. These don't need to be in two-column format, but they have to be on separate pages, and the page numbers, like the Bibliography, do not show up on the TOC. I will need them to do so. I have the following Preamble: \usepackage{multicol} \newcommand\myColumnSep[1]{% \setlength{\columnsep}{#1}} \newcommand\mymulticols[2]{% \myColumnSep{#2}\begin{multicols}{#1}% } \newcommand\multicolsoff{\end{multicols}} This worked great, but no page number for the bibliography. Now with the additional requirements, I am stuck. I appreciate any help I can get with this. Thank you. -- Bob Gamble Phone: 970-375-1819 Cell: 303-717-1426 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://www.kiksadi.com
Newbie formatting problem
I'm working on a book of performance scores, many of which are in a format that uses sort of python-like indenting: Someone sings the beginning of a syllable at any pitch at any volume starting with any consonant or combination of consonants followed by a sustained vowel sound. If you are singing, you may end your syllable at any time. If someone else is singing, do not change from the vowel that you have been singing. If no one else is singing, you may end your syllable with any consonant or consonants. Is there a good way to do this in LyX without having to put the text into a fixed-width font? Thanks for any enlightenment. -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Jerusaklyn http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New MusicSilence: the John Cage Discussion List |
