Thanks to Steven Homolya and Matej Cepi for their replies.

A real surprise to me that PDF had embedded javascript!

Does LyX still support FoilTeX?

What's "IIRC Prosper"? The only thing I know is that some symbols/fonts
render as whitespaces or rectangular boxes in xpdf, while they appear
correctly in acroread.

IIRC Prosper relies on JavaScript abilities of acroread, which
are not supported anywhere else.

acroread is best, except for quick pdf preview, in which case I use xpdf.
gv filters the pdf through a pdf-to-ps converter. gv is slower than
xpdf. The antialiasing in gv can make graphics (e.g. plots) appear
unrecognizable on screen, but non-standard (whatever that means) fonts
are better supported in gv than xpdf. Use acroread to display the final
version. (There is no reload in acroread, so it's a bit awkward for
previewing)

It's about using latex to create presentations in several ways,
including with foiltex and pdflatex, which are supported by lyx.

gv or Acrobat to display PDF?

2003-01-11 Thread John O'Gorman
Hi

Despite using LyX very happily for many years, I have never thought to
use
it for presentations. Recent emails on this list re Prosper, Seminar,
etc
have pricked up my interest. I would like to use LyX for all
documentation.

Some questions:

Which is preferable: gv or Acrobat for displaying PDF files?

My first attempt to use the Seminar class in LyX resulted in abysmal
failure.
Probably errors in trying to nest inappropriately into environments.
Is there a short howto anywhere?
