installing memoir on lyx on vista/windows
im googling and faq'ing but i find nothing to help me install memoir on lyx on vista. im using lyx 1.5.4 thanks for the help g

How to install a downloaded package on your computer? So When I go under Document --> settings -->Document Class and choose "Unavailable:Book (memoir)" it then says "The layout file requested by this document, memoir,layout is no usable. This is probably because a LaTeX class or style files required by it is not available. See Customization documentation for more information. Lyx will not be able to produce output." At this point, I truly get lost. Any help appreciated. g

Go to Start->All Programs->MiKTeX version->Browse Packages and search for memoir in the Name field. Click on memoir and click the + sign to install. Then do a Tools->Reconfigure in LyX and all should be well. Memoir should be 'available'. Cheers, /Bob

You said you already installed memoir through the MiKTeX package manager. Then you just need to do Tool->Reconfigure within LyX so that it recognizes this newly installed package. Cheers, /Bob

I was going to tell you that when i do a lyx reconfigure it just hangs there forever until I have to close the program, but when i just restarted it now seems available. strange. thanks. would this be a bug to report on vista?

No, I don't believe it's a bug. Sometimes (especially the first time) you reconfigure LyX it can take quite awhile (you probably just weren't quite patient enough :-}). I've had to wait upwards of 5min or more. Sometimes restarting helps Windoze. Cheers, /Bob
