I used to use Outlook Express for composing emails
for the LyX user group. I got some complaints about
the formatting of messages. I switched to Thunderbird
which goes with Firefox and it worked well except for
one problem. When I read news next, the Subject:
would get opened fully expanded for the thread which
had most recently received a post. The topics getting
the highest volume are often flamewars or philosophical
rambling that everybody feels like they are an expert
and have something worthwhile to say. It can take the
scrolling through several screens to get back to the
Collapse all check-box. The solution is to use "\"
without the quotes, it automatically collapses all
threads. It really saves the mouse hand. * expands all
It took me a few hours to discover this.

Also be careful of the formatting if you cut and paste:
http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/
http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/
Those urls are useful for doing searches on error messages.

Since I'm at it the Marc nearly identical lists are:
http://marc.10east.com/?l=lyx-users&r=1&w=2
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=lyx-devel

http://www.lyx.org/ with a lot of navigational links
