As ulem.sty is a *TeX* package, not a *Debian* (or Ubuntu or ...) package,
it will not be found by apt (aptitude, synaptic, ...) package search.

Instead, it must be searched for the *file* ulem.sty, e.g. with apt-file.
This reveals that the TeX package ulem.sty is in the Debian package

For debian based Linux distributions (*.deb packages), the search tool is
apt-file. After installing and initializing (`apt-file update` as root), you
can search with `apt-file find ulem.sty`.

2015-05-21 Thread Gordon Cooper

Greetings to all,

The ulem.sty filename appears several times in the lyx-users archive
with most requests reporting that the file was absent. It happened to
me today when a conversion to pdf stalled because ulem was missing.

All the dependency files were present and the problem difficult to find,
so I eventually re-installed everything that might be related. That
fixed it.

I would be grateful if someone could advise just which package contains
ulem.sty so that if it happens again there'll be a quicker repair.

Thanks,

Right now, there's no error anymore, but no output (pdf or anything else)
whatsoever...

I'd first try a 'locate ulem' to see if there are problems with some
LaTeX configs. Otherwise, if possible, try searching on-line your
distro's packages and see which one contains (should contain)
ulem.sty. Last resort, make sure that you actually need to use "funny"
underlining in Text style (wavy, double, and so on).
