I do this with all my old computers. I put a label on the bottom with info
about any battery and capacitor replacements that have been done. If not for
me, then for some future owner.

It works, it just works differently.

If you are fastidious about keeping fresh batteries in your Model T and
never letting them run down, and/or you're always connected to a wall wart
it makes no difference.

If you're like me and get busy with other things and go back to the model T
you set aside it's a pleasant surprise to go back days or weeks later and
see that the RAM file system is still intact.

It's one thing I think Kyocera/Tandy got exactly right. The RAM filesystem
is a filesystem. It deserves its own independent long term power supply.

A super cap will work that is not the problem. The issues come down to making
one fit, holding it in place, and that it does not back up nearly as long as
the original NiCad did. None of these may be deal breakers for someone, I
thought it was fun to try. For the average user popping in a NiMh is easier as
it is a direct swap and works the same way the NiCad did.

Hi Everybody,

I used a 0.22F Super Capacitor and it worked beautifully - It is only used to
power the RAM when you are changing batteries, so I don't understand why it
would be an issue. It gives me over 20 minutes of battery out time, while I
scour kitchen drawers looking for AAs.

I did a video on this a year or so ago. I used a super cap as an experiment but
would not recommend it. A modern NiMh batter works great in place of the
original NiCad and will back up much longer than the super cap. While you in
there have a look at the electrolytic capacitors and make sure they aren't
leaking as well.

Naturally after entering lurk mode I would develop an issue with my M100 with
which I need advice.

I just replaced the 4 double-A Duracells in my M100, and when I turned it back
on, it was completely reset... hterm was missing, rexmanager was missing, the
date was back to 1900 00:00:00...

This suggests to me that my internal battery is dead.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?

Can anyone suggest a simple walk-through of the replacement procedure?

I've read on here where others have replaced their batteries, but I didn't pay
it much attention until now, since I'm reluctant to crack open my M100.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.
