a problem with audacity

2011-12-15 Thread michael weaver

i have just installed audacity on my macbook.
however although it worked the first time when i was exploring
the app, for some reason an unknown dialogue keeps popping up
and i am sure this is preventing me from making a recording
because i have tried lower and capital r, command r and control r
but when i do a space to stop and do the go go to start option
and hit play i get nothing at all so i am wondering if i
accidentally chose something under preferences which is causing
me to get this unknown dialogue and preventing me from doing
anything with the app.

When I bring up the save dialogue box after I press command s and I
type in the name of the document and then I move to where pop up then
I press VO space bar Then I go through the choices of where I can
save the document I can't find my folder that I created on the
desktop What I want to know is how do I save my document in the
folder that I created?

Re: Help with text edit

2011-12-15 Thread David Griffith

There are two places to navigate to in the save dialogue.
The first is as you have discovered is the pop up button. This works a
little like the folder area in a windows save dialogue.
The pop up button will hold recent folders and also let you navigate to
drives or your entire Mac.

To navigate on a more detailed level you need to use the file browser.
I think you may need disclosure checked to see this.
Anyway keep on moving pass the pop up button and you will eventually hear
voiceover say browser. interact with this and the file browser will open
with the location you have set in the pop up button.
I find it easiest to use column view in the browser this so that all you do
is press right and left cursor keys to navigate between folders to where
you want to go. Stop interacting when you are where you want to be and
press the save button.
Actually pressing vo space will probably do the trick without stopping
interacting but you can experimenter.
Remember a couple of tips. Pressing vo end - I am not sure what the laptop
keys are- will jump VO focus to the last button in the dialogue box. This
can save time. Also item chooser works everywhere so is a quick way of
jumping to buttons by first letter navigation.

iOS Skype 3.6

2011-12-15 Thread Kevin Chao
Do *NOT* update to Skype 3.6. There's a significant VoiceOver accessibility
regression, where conversation history content area is completely inaccessible
on iPhone and iPad. I wasn't added to beta until several days ago (after app
was submitted to iOS app store). I did file a couple of dozen bug reports
against VoiceOver accessibility, but it wasn't in time for this release.

use given the extensive use of the Flash player.

IOS devices don't use Flash thank Goodness.

I downloaded the ABC iView app a little while ago and installed it onto my

offered the iView viewer.

I've only played with the iView app for a few minutes and there are sections I
haven't looked around in yet but I can tell you that its a snap! to select the
TV programme you wish to view and have the iView app load and play it for you.

A nice touch is the ability to use Airplay to stream the iView programme to
something like an Apple TV which may have a TV connected to it thus you can view the
programme on a device with a larger screen than what your iPad may have.

A job well done ABC and I can only hope that your iView web site becomes more

You are using wrong way to filter.
There is specific quickfilter field in the main window toolbar.
You need to enter the toolbar table and then navigate to a field
which is labelled as Search search text field.
Using this quickfilter will present all relevant conversations and
contact matching the string you entered.

Help with how to make sure previous documents open don't open upon relaunching of that program

2011-12-15 Thread michael maslo
Hi list,

I was wondering if there is a way to disable the last document to be open when
you relaunch a program.

What I am trying to do is as follows:

When for example I launch text edit, it always brings up the last document I
was in.

What I want to do is have a blank document instead of me having to manually
open it.

Is this possible?

Thanks so much in advance.

VM help

2011-12-15 Thread michael maslo
Hi list:

When I set up VM fusion, I had it set up for 2 gb of memory allotted to windows
plus 2 to the mac side of things. I have noticed some issues with sluggishness
etc when the vm fusion is running.

I just bough t more memory and about to get it installed.

My question is as follows. Since my vm fusion is already set up, is there a way
to reallocate memory for both sides of the system?

IF so, can someone please let me know how?

Re: Reading email messages on the iPhone

2011-12-15 Thread Sandy Tomkins
Hi Dane,

Not sure what might have changed, but for me the following choices work.

1. Upon opening an email from the inbox, VO is automatically placed at the
start of the message body. This was introduced with IOS5. So a two finger flick
down will read the rest to me.

2. Should I be moving from message to message via Previous or next VO is
not automatically placed at the start of the message body, so I just place my
finger approx one inch (2.5 Cm) down from the top left of the screen. I usually
hear message body announced in a lower voice, or maybe I will hear the date
before the message, either way a two finger flick down will read the text.

HTH, Sandy.

Re: Connecting to sites using SSH protocol

2011-12-15 Thread Travis Siegel
There's an sftp command in osx. If you want secure ftp, use sftp
instead of standard ftp. It all works exactly the same. Of course,
this assumes you don't mind the terminal, and have knowledge of the
ftp commands.
But, assuming all that is true, there's your secure ftp. (ncftp
supports this too), but again, command-line only.
Though, someone did mention transmit handles secure ftp, so that may
work for you too.

Re: voice recording on the mac

2011-12-15 Thread Dane Trethowan
For audio it outputs in M4A and for video in MOV but regardless of that its
probably the easiest way to get started when it comes to making any recording
including voice as its perfectly accessible.

I don't think I'd be too worried about audio and video file converters if all I
wanted to do was to make recordings and play them back as M4A is compatible
with most things nowadays.

So to make a recording with Quicktime, select Make New Audio Recording from
the file menu, next select the device you want to record from and by default
this is usually the built-in microphone.

Then press the record button and yap away, press the stop button when finished
and press the play button to hear what you've recording.

Re: getting my purchased playlist back in iTunes.

2011-12-15 Thread Dane Trethowan
I could be wrong here but isn't there a specification in the rules
section of smart playlists that specifies whether a track has been
purchased or not? If that's the case then you could make a smart
playlist to bring all your purchases back.

hello. After updating to the new iTunes I noticed my purchases playlist is
going. How do I get it back? I need to download something to the mac iTunes
library that got deleted some how when I screwed things up.

Thanks.

When I set up VM fusion, I had it set up for 2 gb of memory allotted to

I just bough t more memory and about to get it installed.

My question is as follows. Since my vm fusion is already set up, is there a
way to reallocate memory for both sides of the system?

IF so, can someone please let me know how?
