Re: Questions about the Focus Blue 40

2012-10-07 Thread Sean Murphy
Hello,

I do not believe Voice-Over supports this functionality under the Mac. You
cannot use function keys, command, option or control keys as it is possible
under windows using the JFW program. This is because Voice-Over has not got the
functionality where the Windows Screen reader has it built in.

You can set up shortcut keys within Voice-over for those commands you want to
use. This is the work around. But you cannot use a keyboard combination to
generate the above mention keys with another key.

If I am in error, please correct.

Re: Virtual CD-RW for Mac

2012-10-07 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Travis

OK, just to explain a little more. This software emulates the CD driver so that
a virtual disk is created. In effect what you have is 2 internal CDRW drives.
You can write to, delete from, close and eject this drive just as you can a CD.
The obvious difference being that there is no physical media involved. iTunes,
for example, can write you a CD but there's no actual CD there. I'm not a
technical expert, but that is how it works.

Subject: Virtual CD-RW for Mac

Hello everybody

Have you ever used a virtual CD-RW drive under other operating systems, and
wished that you could do the same thing under Mac OS X? Well here is some
great news which might interest you - you can! A small utility called
Virtual CD-RW which sits on your menu bar and runs when you need it. So,
if you are writing things to CD and need to test them out regularly, you no
longer need to go through the hassle of wasting disks, or even erasing them;
you can do it all on a virtual CD-RW.

This little utility has already made it possible for Gordon to create audio
CD's, then if need be, modify them later. The advantage being that you no
longer need to worry about writing multi-session disks and discovering that
they aren't universally playable in every CD drive out there. We are
currently testing it with VoiceOver, because obviously with it being an
application which sits on the menu bar, there is always the potential for
inaccessibility and before we recommend this application, we want to be
certain that it is one which we can recommend as fully usable by VoiceOver
users. However, if nobody is interested then usable or not, we won't bother
the group with the details - virtual CD's are not something which every
computer user has a practical use for, and this utility is not free -
although for what we get out of it it doesn't seem unduly expensive at just
$29.00 US. So, could you please let us know if you are interested? Gordon is
also hoping to produce an audio podcast demonstrating how this application
can be used - but again, only if there is interest.

Lynne

2012-10-07 Thread Timothy J. Meloy
Hi Jeff,
After reading your E-mail I launched pulsar and am able to stream sirius XM
content just fine. I switched back and forth between nascar radio and nfl
radio and it behaved as it always does. I also use the iPhone app. It
certainly isn't the most accessible app in the world but there are work arounds
for it to do the tasks that you want it to. For example, when you're listening
to a station and you want to go back to the categories list you can double tap
the bottom left hand corner of the screen. That's the back button, although
voice over doesn't read it as such. I haven't tried labeling the buttons with
the custom element labeling feature. That might work as well.

Musicdoc still works, however, they have not added the sports play-by-play
channels. My question, therefore is: what are people now using? Last I knew,
the Sirius/XM IOS app was inaccessible, as is their on-line player which
appears to be using exclusively flash with none of the elements labeled in a
manner such that a screen reader can read it.

TIA for any ideas, or perhaps the IOS app has improved?

Hello David and all

I know that a number of people, including Travis, have already located this. I
didn't give you the web page because we are still awaiting confirmation of
accessibility to the registration and a very small number of other functions
with VoiceOver. However, in essentials, it works fine. So, if you want to try
this, feel free. But be aware that, because it installs a kernel extension, you
cannot get rid of it just by removing the application from your /applications
folder.

Here is the website where you can find more details:

Re: 1Password for IOS Question

2012-10-07 Thread John Gunn
Hello:

Thanks for the info, confirming what the web site said as well.

The 1password pro app is a universal app, meaning it works natively on the

1password app you see in the appstore is an iPad only. If you have both an
iPad and iPhone or iPod touch you want to run the app on, the pro app is the
 better deal.

 Hope this helped

Re: In search of a Sirius/XM solution.

2012-10-07 Thread Geoff Waaler
Hello Timothy,

Thanks for the info. Great news that the IOS app is usable. I was
grandfathered into the free on-line account, but it does not cover streaming to
the IOS app, hence based on what I read earlier and the fact that Pulsar and
MusicDoc were viable options, I opted to stay with my free subscription.

I'm in the US, but Pulsar is hanging with a message stating buffering.
Perhaps the disparity in our observations has to do with the fact that I have
an XM account? Anyway, it sounds as though Pulsar won't be functioning for
much longer regardless, which is very sad.

Thanks again and best regards.
Geoff

  Hi Jeff,
After reading your E-mail I launched pulsar and am able to stream sirius XM
content just fine.

  Greetings yy'all,

Sadly, Pulsar is now a tool of the past. Though this Rogue Amoeba page
implies that US accounts are still functioning for the present, I am no longer
able to play XM content via Pulsar.

TIA for any ideas, or perhaps the IOS app has improved?

the muder application

2012-10-07 Thread Mike Arrigo
Hey everyone, was trying to get the muder application on the mac to work for a
friend of mine. I know others on this list have said it's useable. What exactly
did you do to make it work? When navigating around the application, voiceover
just says unknown, unknown, which indicates the application is using
nonstandard controls. There is nothing in the menus to change this, and no
options to enable a self voicing feature. For those who have gotten this
application to work, what exactly did you do to enable access? Is it supposed
to work with voiceover or provide its own speech? We need step by step here,
not just to say that the app works fine and is accessible. Thanks for any info
you can provide.

2012-10-07 Thread Mike Arrigo
Yes, she got it from the mac app store, though I'm beginning to wonder if there
is more than one app with that name, I've been using voiceover on the mac for
over 4 years, if there were any labeled buttons in this app, I would have found
them. This had the typical zoom, minimize and close buttons, and then 3
controls that said unknown. Also, there was nopreferences window, only a
preferences menu where you could enable or disable different things such as the
status bar.
