right, I have a friend here locally who can help me with that tomorrow. Thanks

Re: FiRe - Fire Field Recorder

2013-07-03 Thread Esther
Hi Sarah and Dane,

FiRe 2 was pulled from the app store about a week ago, because RØDE Microphones
has purchased the app from Audiofile Engineering, and are taking over support.
Here's the link to the announcement at the RØDE Microphones web site:
http://www.rodemic.com/news/rode-purchases-fire-application-for-ios/

The problem with the VoiceOver audio muting started with the May 28 update, so
if you have an earlier version of the app you can revert to. It will work.
Here's the link to the Mail Archive post that covers this issue:

http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/msg43720.html

Basically, VoiceOver gets muted when you select the "Recordings List Configure
Input" button in the bottom left corner of the Recordings screen. audio returns
when you exit this screen either via the "save" or "Cancel" button, and start a
recording. So, if you're OK with your current settings, you can either double
tap to exit the "Configure" screen by canceling, since focus will be on the
"Back" button that will get you back to the "Recordings" screen, and then do a
four-finger tap in the bottom half of the screen to move to the "Add Recording"
button that is the last element in the screen, at the bottom right corner, and
double tap. Audio from VoiceOver will start up again, and you can just select
the recording you added, then use the recording controls in the normal fashion.
You're navigating without the audio feedback to get these controls. I'm
assuming that Dane has already configured his Settings to start recordings with
button controls.

There doesn't seem to be an easy fix for this problem. The support staff at
Audiofile Engineering ended up taking the problem to the Apple engineers at the
WWDC. The answer came back in mid-June, that the problem stemmed from the
update's feature addition of support for sampling rates above 48 kHz. They
seem to have hit an incompatibility with VoiceOver's operation under iOS 6, and
they don't think it will be solved until the release of iOS 7. (What they
actually said was that they had shown this to the Apple engineers at the WWDC,
and couldn't come up with a solution in the current operating system, but hoped
it would be resolved in iOS 7.) Here's the link to this report:
• Update report on Fire 2 crashing VoiceOver
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/msg45368.html

Hopefully, this will also be enough information for Brenda to get her refund
for this app. Basically, the last version update made VoiceOver go mute for
part of the process for starting up a recording. You can work around it if
you've used the app before, and are willing to use the same settings, but this
isn't something a new user would be able to deal with.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Article: Apple loses its shine

2013-07-03 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Dane, Mike, Josh and all

I also wonder whether this chap is in breech of his NDA, assuming he's signed
up for one of course. There are only so many times you can re-shape the wheel
before it become round again. Apple is traditionally very secretive about its
plans, and why not. So who knows where the future will take us. Gordon and I
have considered other platforms but to be honest we just feel comfortable with
Apple's so we will stick for the foreseeable. It's good that there is
competition, but bad to speculate without knowing the full story I think. This
chap is, I feel confident, not in possession of all of the facts because I
don't think that anybody outside of Apple is. Be that as it may, iOS7 is still
not in the public domain so we need to be careful. This list has always
respected Apple's right to hold its cards close to its chest. We want that
situation to remain.

Right, that's understandable, but how do you share folders and stuff if you
can't do it in the application because it has no windows? I understand the
website but that's a bit tedious to go through every time you want to share a
folder.

Re: Numbers On IOS Devices

2013-07-03 Thread Dane Trethowan
What an absolute nusance that is.

I already own Pages and just bought numbers, the Apps are cheap enough so
perhaps the issue you described will be resolved in the future.

At least I can do copying and pasting with Notesy so its not as though I don't
have text editing options at my disposal though I'm having to use Spreadsheets
a lot now with my work so having an accessible mobile Spreadsheet App of some
sort is going to be worth its weight in gold, I'm also looking around in the
area of Android Apps to see if anything is available there.

Thanks For Your Help.

Re: Numbers On IOS Devices

2013-07-03 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Dane,

Last month I took another look at Numbers and Pages on both my iPhone 4S and
iPad Mini running the latest IOS and, unfortunately, both apps are still
plagued by an issue where the "copy / paste" popup menu is constantly active
while I am trying to work in a Numbers spreadsheet or a Pages table. This only
seems to occur while VO is turned on, and so far I've heard of no way to get
around the issue. It's a shame, really, because these two apps seem otherwise
quite VO accessible but this popup bug makes it virtually impossible to
maintain one's sanity while trying to navigate and edit..

HTH,
Bryan

Numbers On IOS Devices

2013-07-03 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Does anyone use this on an IOS device? I would imagine - given the size of an
iPad and the way a spreadsheet App functions - that Numbers - if its useable -
would be easier to use on an iPad right?
