Re: Setting up Mail

2013-09-11 Thread Matthew Carello
Hello there. I never put anything in there. When you hit continue it should be
able to find the settings it needs. If it doesn't it should take you to the
mail app where you can fill in what you need. Once again I never put anything
in that text field and it has not hurt anything.

Setting up Mail

2013-09-11 Thread Catherine Turner
Hi,

I just went to set up Mail for the first time on my Macbook. It asked
for some information like name, e-mail address and password which I
filled in. But one of the text fields wasn't saying what it was for -
VO just said "text field". Anyone remember or got any ideas what that
text field is for?

Thanks,

Decimals in spreadsheets

2013-09-11 Thread Andy Collins
Hi all -

Been here before, but not quite sorted it yet.

I'm using Numbers, and can't seem to get decimal places to show on the
spreadsheet. It rounds up or down to the nearest whole number.

I've looked under new inspector on the view menu, but couldn't make to much
sense of it.

Thing is, some of the numbers do show 2 decimal places, but these were entered
some time ago, today, it won't let me put numbers in that have decimal places,
without rounding them. The balance at the bottom of the spreadsheet does show
2 decimal places, so they do exist, but clearly, something has changed since
last time and this. Anybody help me then understand where and how to choose the
number of decimal places a number can go to? -

Andy

Re: Audio book binder

2013-09-11 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Hi Paul,

This is interesting. I'm also noticing issues with the books that Audiobook
builder produces. On the mac they seem to be correctly divided into chapters,
however when transferred to the iPhone this information is lost resulting in
very large (and long) parts of the book.

Thanks very much,

I am the person whose Calendar in ml read differentlythen in lion.

I fixed the problem by re and re ml.
a drastic move, but nothing would work.

Now that it took me years to upgrade to ml from lion, I wonder how long it
will take me to upgrade to Maverick?

Thank you for all your help and suggestions!

I think audio book binder is free while you have to pay for audio book builder.

I have both installed and when I last tried it I found audio book builder

Re: authentication has no windows

2013-09-11 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello,

I thought I read a post that suggested that you just need to click the
trackpad. This puts the focus upon something. Then you can cmd + tab to get on
the buttons to start the computer.

Re: Audio book binder

2013-09-11 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello George,
I get audio books from www.calibre.org.uk. the books come on memory sticks with
each book comprising up to 120 MP3 files with names like 001034-001, 001034-002
and so on with each file containing about 10 minutes of audio.

I first play the first MP3 files which announces the book title and author
name.

I then open audio book binder and enter the author name and book title. I then
select the files tab and press the add button. that opens a dialogue enabling
me to select all the MP3 files on the memory stick which get copied into the
table when I press the open button.

I then select all the files in the table and go to the chapters item in the
audio book binder menu bar. I ensure that enable chapters is checked and then
press the split files item. that doubles the number of files in the files
table. I then go back to the chapters item in the menu bar and press the
renumber item. that creates a separate chapter for each MP3 file. this has two
benefits. First it enables me to more easily skip forwards and backwards by
sensible amounts of time when reading the book on my iPod Nano. Second while
the iPod Nano remembers my reading position you can mess this up by incorrect
operation. Having a separate chapter for each MP3 file enables me to easily
find my place in those circumstances.

I finally go to the file menu and press the make audio book item. I choose the
folder where I want the audio book saved. I then have to be patient while the
audio book is built.

I then play the completed audio book for a few seconds to get it into iTunes so
that I can sync it with my iPod Nano 7.

If it is a very long audio book I would create it as part 1 containing the
first set of files and part 2 containing the second set of files. this is
sometimes necessary as my iPod Nano does not cope with audio books longer than
about 10 hours.

Hope this helps...
