It's so the credentials are synced across all devices and is not intended to remember them for you however Safari can autofill them if necessary and this is now part of Keychain. Pages: exporting to other formats
Hello everyone, If you’re using the new Pages, the export function does not work as expected. Whatever you select in the Export submenu has no effect on the format. You have to interact with each Unknown on the next screen until you find the format you want, then bring the mouse and do a VO-Shift-Space bar click. error i am getting.
Hi since upgrading to maverick I am getting a problem. When I try to open a file that i’ve downloaded with COG the media player of my choice I keep getting an error. It keeps saying that the file can’t be opened because it’s not from an identified developer. I never had this problem before and could just open any file that was mp3 I downloaded with the cog player. Wonder if anyone can help. Thanks very much in advance. Starting a degree advice needed
Dear listers, I am going to be starting history degree next year at the grand old age of 56. I never did a degree when younger and was hoping for some advice from those who have done one with a visual impairment. Try bringing up the context/shortcut menu for the downloaded item and choose Open from that menu. This should give you the option to use the file. If you are comfortable making global changes to your security settings for downloaded content, try System Prefs / Security Privacy / General / Allow Apps Downloaded from…. Increasingly the Amazon Kindle Library is providing access to many Text books which will be accessible on your phone if not your Mac. This is an important resource though luckily for History students there is also a lot of historical texts which are available freely in the public domain through Gutenberg and Internet File Archive. Nevertheless a good scanning solution is essential as even in History it is inevitable that much material will only be available in print format. In the end I used to use a support worker to go and scan whatever book I needed using and EyePal portable scanner attached to her laptop. She then uploaded the jpg page image files in a zip file to sendspace and after I downloaded them I found that I got good results using Abbey Finereader to convert the documents rather than use the default EyePal software on my Mac. I used Finereader on Windows but see no reason why it should not do as well on the Mac. This meant I did not waste time going to libraries where I could not read books and could get on with something else. The British Library in particular were very supportive of this arrangement. You will need DSA support for this. Unfortunately the disadvantage of this approach is that on occasions you will not get good scanning results. If a book is absolutely critical it may be better to read as you scan at home as you can rescan in the event that gibberish is the outcome of the scan. Try and get agreement that page references can be substituted by location references if your material is in electronic format. If a text document is in plain text and does not have embedded page numbers for references I used the page number generated by Word using Normal.dot format. You may have to do something similar with numbers generated by pages. The new ability of Pages to read tables on the Mac increases the feasibility of using the Mac for serious study. Abby Finereader is the best engine I have found for scanning tables. I would still use TextEdit for reading long documents / books as you are not restricted to a page in say all mode. Adobe Digital editions is a possible solutions for ePub Books but hopefully iBooks on the Mac will improve soon. Remember that the VO command VO Shift C will Copy the last phrase spoken to clipboard so you can get accessible access to ePub books to check spelling of names etc. Remember that Google Scholar is your friend in trying to research subjects or follow lines of academic enquiry. Personally I found setting VO Punctuation to all whilst I am writing is necessary as otherwise I do not get sufficient feedback on errors such as multiple full stops... Also rather than experience frustration with the Blackboard system I recommend You encourage your lecturers to email class material to you in advance of lectures as a reasonable adjustment. Unless Blackboard has significantly improved since I used it, it is more hassle than it is worth for a blind student. It is partially accessible but as I say it is best to avoid if you can. You may want to stick with mountain lion for a while yet, until the first update for 10.9 is released. There are a few issues with mavericks. Original message: I've been on vacation for the past couple of weeks, so missed a lot of the mavericks thread. I'm fairly new to using the mac, and was wondering if most people on this list now prefer mavericks over mountain lion or mountain lion over mavericks. What do I need to look for when installing mavericks? I don't want to mess up during the installation because this computer is the only working one I have right now. Finder busy, when going through folders with a lot of files in them in Mavericks?
Hi all, in Mavericks now, I noticed that when I’m attempting to go through a folder that has a lot of files in it, that I’m getting finder busy and it’s locking up. This is on a late 2012 iMac, with 16 gb ram, and a 3.1 ghz quad core i7 processor. A friend of mine is also getting this on her early 2011 Macbook pro, one of the first ones to have thunderbolt.Is anyone else getting this? If so how are they working around it? HI Dan, Yep can confirm I’m getting this on two separate machines. One is an iMac (same as yours) the other a much older Macbook Pro. To get around it I press cmd-option-escape to bring up the force quit window, then relaunch finder. I also notieced in the latest ml and I”m running a dool core with 4 gigs of ram. I don’t mush know how to get around it but it drives me nuts as even my computer list drive lags and there’s lil 4 items in there lol! Take care. Hi I am a maverick user and I would agree. If you are a gmail user i’d advise that you think very carefully before upgrading as the way gmail is handled is a lot different. I personally don’t like it because now you have to have your all male folder showing and it took me days to get everything from the server again and clear it. The Ibooks is nice though on the mac but i’ve not worked out how to get back to the beginning of a book yet, also there are some accessibility issues with Ibooks that apple are currently working on. For example the buttons are not properly labeled yet. Hi, I have the paid version of DigitEyes on my iPhone. It seems to me that this app allowed one to make their own labels in the paid version. Does anyone know how we go about getting the barcodes to the printer? Thanks. Hi Glenn, As far as I know, (I have it as well), you go on line to do it. Log into the website, and there are links to allow you to print out your labels. You choose size and type, and they print by you setting the labels inside the printer tray. That probably didn't help much, and I have never printed them, but maybe it at least gives you a starting point. I believe there are actually directions on the website, if you do go on and look. Is there a way to make 2 boot disks via partitions?
Hello to my mac gurus. I have an odd question for you all. I have a friend who wants to do this. He already has a ML partition on a 32 gig flash drive. My thinking is he can make another partition on said drive and create another boot partition with mavericks. We tried to do this but ended up removing all the partitions and starting over. When we went to disk utility and clicked add partition it added one, but made it 16 mb. We could not change this to 16 gigs no matter what we did including trying to type gb. Next we created 2 partitions and called one 10.8.5 j and one 10.9. He is still on ML so we ran lion disk maker and it erased all of the partitions on the volume and made it 1 big 32 gig partition with 10.8.5 on it. Is there a way to preserve the 10.8l5 boot disk and create a mavericks install boot disk using the terminal command, and would the terminal command work with the ML thing so maybe we could do both partitions?
