I have had no region issues using VLC. I am not sure if this is because I
installed handbrake as well. In any case the warning messages have stopped
since I switched to using VLC.

You can change the region, but you can only I believe change the region 5
times before you get penalized.

Hope that helps.

Re: crosswords for mac

2014-01-07 Thread Sandratomkins
Hello anne and will,
I too am a fan of the Guardian crosswords. I do them most days on my iPhone for
running 613. I also have a for S running the latest 7.04 release. However,
using the latest release on my for S the access ability of the Guardian
crossword has been broken. So, I'm glad that I kept the old iOS running on my
iPhone for because this means I can still do the crosswords. After playing with
the for S and observing the differences, I think the problem is one of
containers. Containers having been introduced to the iPhone iOS, since version
seven, I think may have caused some problems with curser focusing/and jumping
between containers. I do not have containers turned on in my rotor, so, will
try this later on and see if it makes a difference to how well VO deals with
the crosswords. In short, if you're running a pre-iOS seven version then you
should be good to go, but if you are running version 7X then you may well find
it frustrating.

Happy solving,
Sandy

In an Ethernet cable, for instance, there are 8 wires that are
colored in such a way as to allow a technician to tell which
lead belongs with it's mate making for four pairs. As one
example, the first pair is called blue-white and consists of
one lead which is mostly blue with little wite thready spots
like dashes printed in the insulation. It's mate is white with
little blue markings against the white background. There is
another pair that is green and grey and so forth.

An OCR program probably couldn't help you much because
these are not characters but a pattern-matching program probably
could do it if you could show it only one wire at a time.

Has anybody done this with any success?

By the way, the real monster in this problem is that
wires inside of equipment are in all sorts of places and bundled
tightly making it hard to isolate one out of, say, 15 or 20 or
lots more. I have seen the wire bundle coming out of a relay
rack at our local telephone exchange. This bundle was about the
size of a pair of legs and probably had 4800 strands in it. The
color scheme repeats itself indefinitely and then the whole
rainbow goes in to a sheath of some color pattern along with
other small bundles in their sheaths of different colors and
that's how they do this on a huge scale.

The camera on an IOS device would probably be able to
see lots of wires at once but the job would be to isolate the
one to identify and ignore the rest.

Hi Amin,

You can use TextMate. I believe it has a plugin that allows you to edit files
straight from an FTP. You can then install an FTP server on your Unix server
and edit them in real-time.

Please go to the TextMate website and download the Alpha 2.0 version (which is
free). It is compatible with VoiceOver, as well.

On a side note, why don't you download the xCode command-line tools and compile
the C code locally?

Good luck.

The other option is textedit app. But I have to scp the files from unix

I am looking for an easier way to modify/edit program language code.

Reference Tools In OSX

2014-01-07 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

A tip for those who are students and use a Mac for research.

I've not seen the Dictionary App which is part of OSX mentioned here on list.

The App does what it says enabling the user to look up words and look at the
corresponding definitions etc.

Actually the App does far more than that, its a very handy way to access
Wikipedia for instance, just select where you want to search from the radio
buttons under the toolbar, type in your search term and examine the results
table for corresponding search matches, to the right of the table is the HTML
content containing the article/text for the entry.

Hi
very cool, does this app require an internet connection? Obviously it
would for Wikipedia but what about basic usage? Some might not want to
go online all the time you see.

Can't answer that, the nature of my Network means I'm online all the time

Yes it does. You don't have all of wikipedia on your mac as far as I can tell.
I keep meeting to add this to my mac basics part 2 but forget.. this is a handy
dandy little tool I use all the time especially this semester.
