Lost "Mail Rules"

2014-03-16 Thread Tom Jones
Some of my 66 mail "rules" have apparently disappeared, causing some of my
busier list traffic to appear in my inbox. It seems I'm left with the first 29
rules I have created. Has anyone had this experience, and if so, was there a
resolution without loss of messages? I have time machine backups at my
disposal, but don't know if that would be a useful strategy.

Re: Magnification with Mac

2014-03-16 Thread Eleanor Burke
Hi Brian, you will be aware that I have looked at the in-built Zoom on my
Mac. While it reaches a satisfactory magnification level for me what I have
found that I need to use a mouse to get around the screen due to the
magnification. To this end, I have used an Apple Magic mouse which is a
bluetooth mouse. What I have encountered is that the mouse movement is very
sluggish indeed so unlike using a mouse on my Windows machine with
Supernova. Now my question to you is if the student found the same problem
with the mouse and furthermore with Zoomtext is there a sluggish mouse on
high magnification?

Hello Eleanor,

On my Mac running OS 10.9.2 I am able to activate the Zoom hotkeys by going
to System Preferences / Accessibility / Zoom. That same preference pane
lists the available hotkeys for toggling Zoom and for zooming in and out.
Are these hotkeys not working on your system?

will then move to the Zoomtext but as you say a hefty price at £375
sterling.

Adium I use all the time. I have it set up so when a new chat comes in
from a different person, I am alerted. Since I can have up to 5 to 8
conversations going a time. It is important I know who has just updated or
pinged me. No other IM does this sort of thing.

It is all configurable and is one of the best IM chats on the market.

I would not do that personally. as you want to see at a glance what a
conversation contains. and if you don't like one pressing delete once is
easier then pressing delete several times just to remove a conversation.

Take care.

You can turn quicknav on and off anywhere but especially on web pages
where navigation is far more logical. Give it a try and you'll see what I
mean. Quicknam can also provide keys to navigate to various web elements
but these are off by default but can be turned on in VoiceOver Utility,
commanders, quicknav tab.

Whenever you lock the VoiceOver keys they remain so until you unlock
them. Whether this is reset when restarting VoiceOver I do not know.
To save even more keystrokes why not toggle quicknav on and off with
left-right. You then just use arrow keys for navigation.

Use quick nav whenever you would normally be using the VO Cursor keys or

Turn it off whenever you need to type text at the keyboard.

Re: Beginner's Clarification On Voice Over Keys

2014-03-16 Thread Chris Apple boy
You can turn quicknav on and off anywhere but especially on web pages
where navigation is far more logical. Give it a try and you'll see what
I mean. Quicknam can also provide keys to navigate to various web
elements but these are off by default but can be turned on in VoiceOver
Utility, commanders, quicknav tab.

Whenever you lock the VoiceOver keys they remain so until you unlock
them. Whether this is reset when restarting VoiceOver I do not know.
To save even more keystrokes why not toggle quicknav on and off with
left-right. You then just use arrow keys for navigation.

Zoom on the Mac verses Zoomtext

2014-03-16 Thread Eleanor Burke
Hi All, while I have not tried out Zoomtext at a cost of £375 (not even
tried the demo) as I now know how to use Zoom on the Mac and would never
dream of spending that amount of money for Zoom. However, one thing I do
notice is that as I use reverse colours, black background and white text,
the mouse is white too, however, unless I have the window maxamised, then
the white mouse can get lost in the area of the screen below a window that
is not maxamised. This however is something that Apple could alter I am
sure if in accessability they provided different colour mouse pointers.

Great! I am new enough with the Mac that I did not think about just exporting

Well, I’m afraid that I have now lost my preferences in my experimentation. I
have to start from ground 0 with configuring VO. Guess it’s not so bad but
will certainly require some time. If anyone has any insight about how these
files are stored, I would appreciate it.

Re: Adium as of today

2014-03-16 Thread chris
As far as I know you have to download Adium from the web. If you google for it
the first result should be the download page. It is hosted on Sourceforge so
make sure you get it from there. In any case this is a free mac application and
by the way I actually like Adium now. All those years ago it turned out I had
Adium to speak when a contact returns from idle and away, hence it saying
connected then shortly after become active. It's a shame you can't preview what
will be spoken unlike events that play a sound where the sound is played as
soon as the action is in focus.

Re: voice over speed hack for osx

2014-03-16 Thread Geoff Stephens
Well, while I appreciate the podcast, it focuses on how to install xCode and
other things like editing preferences you have already saved in your dock.
Honestly, I sometimes have difficulty following these kinds of podcasts.
Simple instructions tend to work better for me. Nevertheless, I’m sure most
people really prefer the podcast format. What I need to know is how to locate
a VO preferences file to modify. If I look in ~/library, I do find VO
preferences but am not at all sure how these are organized and which file I can
use to get a copy of my most recently saved preferences to modify. The link to
your example preferences no longer works but that’s fine. I don’t think I
wanted to start with someone else’s preferences anyway.

Does anyone know how to locate the most recently saved VO preferences?
Thanks.

the catch is this, you need to have the server running. I wonder what
