Re: Using the Apple store app on my iPhone to make a genius barappointment

2014-09-06 Thread Andy Collins
Well I guess I now know that the onscreen keyboard should be visible to VO, so
when it isn’t [if it happens again] I will just keep trying, or maybe reboot.

Going back to creating a Braille note for the password, and then doing a cut
and paste for the onscreen text field; I still think there will be the issue of
the capitalisation of letters, that in Braille require the dot 6 in front of
them, and as I have said before, the password field on the phone will see that
dot 6 as a character thus invalidating the password itself. I’m not sure
therefore if there is a Braille way to enter passwords if for whatever reason,
there is no visible onscreen keyboard.

All this said, I don’t know anything about 8 dot braille, but as it offers 2
extra dots [usually used for the cursor] maybe dot 8 could somehow replicate
dot 6 as an indication of a capitol. Maybe somebody can say more… -

That’s an interesting/ingenious idea, will bear it in mind. I say that
because the issue is now resolved. Several attempts produced the same
experience, but for some reason my last attempt [doing exactly as I had
before] made the onscreen keyboard available again. No idea why it wasn’t
showing up all those other times; just one of those IT oddities! -

Hello Andy. Have you thought of typing the password in a note or something

 this helps,

I don’t have one. However, the suggestion got me to try using a Braille
display; the problem there was that I couldn’t figure out how to enter
capitals and numbers in Braille that would display in the password edit
field the way I needed them to be. I did try using computer numbers, but
as the display just fills up the cells as the phone does in order to keep
the password invisible, I couldn’t check if what I entered worked or not.
Well, actually, it didn’t as I kept getting an error message regarding my
 username and password -

 Hi all -

I followed the list advice and now have the Apple store app on my phone.

When trying to make a Genius bar appointment, I was able to select a
day and time, but when it came to clicking the reserve button, a screen
came up asking for my Apple ID. Although VO said text edit for the
password field, there was no onscreen keyboard for me to use to enter
it. How do folks get around that one? -

Hi Nicholas.

In fact I can not find the trial. Do you have a link?

Yes I can just buy it and get a refund if it is not accessible, but I have done
so with the dragon speech for mac not long ago, because it could not be used
for danish, and I wasn't aware of that. So maybe they will wonder about one
more refund.

Best regards Annie.

Re: How to access setings for dropbox on the mac.

2014-09-06 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Gordon.

I figured out that I could do it in the settings for dropbox, so now I will
have to remember to turn dropbox on when restarting. I will look in
preferences, and see if this method is better.

Thank you
Annie.

 Hi Anne

You could resolve this by simply removing it from the auto-log-in preferences
in System PreferencesUsers Groups under the “Log-In Items” tab.

 Kindest regards

 Gordon

 Hi Phil and Gordon.

I can come to the preferences, but it is not an easy one.

I press the VoiceOver+shift+space and I can find settings and press
vo+command+space and choose click, but the dropdown directly from the extras
 menu will not work.

Another thing is that it ought to be possible to turn dropbox off, so it will
not start automatically, and when start it manually when you have started up
the computer, and you will not run into troubles with the external disc.

 Best regards Annie.

 Hi Phil

I user a high-end thunderbolt drive for my DropBox folder. If your drive
becomes disconnected, for any reason, DropBox pops up a window in the
chooser giving you the option to relink or quit.

I have the latest Mac dropbox app 2.10.74 I think, and I still use the

It’s the only way I know to get at that context menu. Of course, first route
the mouse to the dropbox icon, then hold down the option key and click the
mouse on your air/pro, or on an external mouse
open the preferences menu item in the drop down menu and under “account”,
you can change the default location of the dropbox folder. I’m not sure if
you can successfully use an external disc, but go ahead and experiment with
some dummy files and see what happens when you pull the plug.
under “account”, You can also use selective sync to limit the folders that
dropbox syncs onto your mac, if space is a concern. But, you’ll need sighted
assistance to click the various folders that you want to sync and uncheck
those you don’t want on your machine.
