Re: [Mac-access]: Mail with Yosemite

2014-12-08 Thread Fred Smith

After much frustration with the vo j command, I had the hard disk on my
macbok air erased, followed by a clean install of Yosemite, and now the
command works perfectly, at least in Mail and the Finder. So, if anyone
is having the same problem, it's worth persevering -- it can work in
Yosemite.

mailboxes list and the messages table. But with the new machine, this no longer
works, and VO j does nothing at all. As far as I can tell, all the mail
settings and Voiceover settings are the same on both machines. Has the VO j
command been removed, is this a bug, or have I just missed a vital setting? Any
suggestions welcome.

PS: The problem isn't confined to mail -- though that's the biggest issue for
me. On the new machine, the jump command isn't working in the finder either.

Re: [Mac-access]: Mail with Yosemite

2014-12-08 Thread Bryan Jones
Clean installs of 10.10.1 on 2 different Macs here have yielded no love with
VO+J in either Finder or Mail in Classic view. I wonder what might be different
between our systems.

Interestingly, it seems to be the sidebar VO+J has an aversion to. If I show
the path bar in Finder, VO+J will reliably hop back and forth between the list
of applications and the path bar, and if I have the preview pane showing in
Mail’s classic view, VO+J will gladly hop between the message list and the
preview pane; however, if the path bar and preview pane are hidden, VO+J will
jump from the sidebar to the file list or message list but will not hop back.

[Mac-access]: Getting back a Login Startup Application

2014-12-08 Thread Martin G. McCormick
I accidentally removed an application name from the startup
list. It is the Speech Synthesis Server which surprisingly does
nothing bad to voiceover but kills the time announcements and other
non-voiceover text-to-speech. I did find the very long path and
file name I need to put back but I can't seem to make it happen.

I go to system preferences and then users and login
options and find the login options containing the remaining
startup items plus the add startup application button. After pressing
that button, I get several file tree viewing options and a
search field plus the default button to add the application.
Here is where the confusion happens. I have the path
ending with the application's name in the clipboard buffer so I
dump it in to the search field. A new menu opens up that has two
rows. The top row is called "file names" and the bottom row is
"named matches" and the path and application name appear to the
right of that header.
After closing the menu, the default button is greyed out
so you can't add the application name.
To be clear, I did not delete the application, only it's
name in the list of applications that automatically start up
when one logs in to this account.

Thanks for any ideas or explanations that blow the fog away.

[Mac-access]: Answering phone calls on a mac

2014-12-08 Thread Christopher Hallsworth

Hi all,
For the first time I answered a call on my mac since upgrading to
Yosemite and iOS 8 on both iPhone and iPad, needed to confirm that I
really wanted to add a recipient to my online bank account, they call it
phone authentication, anyway they got me to enter four digits correctly,
this I was able to do all with no difficulties. FaceTime opened on my
mac with the incoming call being displayed. So pressed return to accept.
Then, amazingly, could use the number row of keys to answer the voice
prompts and to enter the four digits, sound quality was amazing as well.

[Mac-access]: disabling accented characters on iPhone data entry

2014-12-08 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I have an iPhone 5S running the latest level of IOS 8. I use the data entry
method where you slide your finger over the virtual keyboard until you find the
desired character and then lift your finger to enter that character.

As I use my finger rather than a stylus I am rather slow finding the desired
character and often wait for the phonetic version e.g. Victor for V or Bravo
for B to confirm that I am entering the correct character. Alas this technique
often triggers the option to select and enter accented versions of the desired
character which I have trouble escaping from.

Is there any way to disable the option to enter accented character mode, or if
not what is the correct way to escape from this mode and revert to normal
characters?

Many thanks for any tips.
Best regards…..

Paul Hopewell

really wanted to add a recipient to my online bank account, they
call it phone authentication, anyway they got me to enter four
digits correctly, this I was able to do all with no difficulties.
FaceTime opened on my mac with the incoming call being displayed. So
pressed return to accept. Then, amazingly, could use the number row
of keys to answer the voice prompts and to enter the four digits,
sound quality was amazing as well.

It should just happen with hand off. Now, I am aware that it is broken for
some, me included and I did get it set up right, how ever I cannot get this to
work.

Yep. it's called hand off. The only thing I could not demo in my bundle. Lol!
Hehahahahaha. Mainly because I can't get it to work. Lol! Ah well. I heard
when it does work on someone else's podcast. it's pretty swift.

Re: [Mac-access]: invert colors on Yosemite

2014-12-08 Thread Colin Matthews
Hi!
I hope this still works in Yosemite!
1, go to system pref's and select keyboard.
2, select the shortcuts tab.
3, select the accessibility category in the table.
4, in the table of key strokes find invert colours and interact with it until
you hear VO say editing text, then press the key combination you wish to use
[making sure that key stroke is not used for anything else]
and VO should say selection replaced, arrow left and back to see if your
selection is now there and if so just quit Pref's and off you go!
The default key stroke to invert colours is the same as one of the hotspot
options VO+command+8 [describes item under hotspot 8]
I've successfully changed that to option+command+0 [in my case]
And now pressing those keys change from white on black to black on white!
I hope this is still the case and can be changed.
Colin.

[Mac-access]: Help setting up mac-Access mail account

2014-12-08 Thread Eric Caron
Hi folks,

I’m having trouble setting up Mac-Accesss in mail on my new iPad.

I suspect i’m messing up the out going and in coming server names.

Can someone tell me exactly what to place in those fields?

I’m looking at my mac to get the info but I don’t seem to be able to get it
right. also my account was set up several years ago so perhaps I need updated
info now that mac-Access has been updated.
