Re: [Mac-access]: Selecting columns and rows in Numbers.

2014-12-11 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Well I'll copy it here for you:
Phil Halton
I find the easiest way to select a column or row is to move to the first cell
you want to start the selection with, and then press shift command down arrow
for columns, or right arrow for rows.
There are many other options available by entering the header with shift VO |
(the key above the enter key). Once you press that key combo, you are in a list
(vo doesn’t always announce this list). up and down arrow and press enter or VO
space on either the column or row reference tab in that list, depending on
whether you want to work with a column or a row. You then arrow right or left
to move to the desired column, or up and down to move to the desired row tab.
Press Vo Space on the desired column or row reference tab to select it. I
believe that selects the entire row/column. Also, with the desired tab
selected, press shift VO +M to bring up the context menu for that row/column.
in there you can do all sorts of things including sorting and filtering data.
Very important! Don’t forget to exit the header with shift VO | again when
you’re done, to return to regular spreadsheet operations.
Also, I think that once you exit the header, your selection is no longer
selected, so do your copy etc while in the header. (I could be wrong on that -
I just tried it quickly before writing this post).

Sean, Phil answered you pretty comprehensively. What part are you unclear about?

Daniel, in what way aren’t you able to work with them? If you navigate with
just the arrow keys, VoiceOver will announce which cells are merged, but will
not announce their contents. If you navigate with the VO keys to the top left
most cell in the merged block, VoiceOver will read the contents. To work with
or edit these merged cells you can just use your normal editing commands.

I ask the same question and didn’t see any reply from Phil. Hense, still do not
know how to select columns and rows.

2014-12-04 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Phil covered selecting columns and rows comprehensively. As for VoiceOver still
announcing hidden columns, this is only if you use the VO keys to navigate. If
you just navigate using the arrow keys alone, as is generally the better
option, then VoiceOver will only announce the visible rows and columns. This is
the same when you filter your tables: navigating with VO keys will not appear
any different, but if you navigate with the arrow keys alone you’ll only see
the filtered rows and columns. Using VO keys to navigate can get you into
mischief as the VoiceOver cursor selects invisible cells, but the keyboard
cursor does not, and this can lead to undesired results.

Hi all.

First time trying to use numbers. How do you select a column or row in Numbers.
The help talks about clicking the table, then the letter or number. Since I
cannot find this, how do you do it? Also if you hide a column, VO still
announces it. Any ideas?

Any good VO tutorials on Numbers that are text base?
