Re: Accessible DVR
This is getting off topic, but I'll give you a hint on how I do this, then, past that point, you can write me off list if you have any further questions. I'll even be willing to make an audio tutorial if you'd like me to. Basically, you need to apply through Time Warner, for their online My Services option. It's totaly free to sign up for, don't worry. You might have to get a little help getting through the initial sign up process, as the web site is quite graphical in nature, and is at best, quite difficult to navigate. The nice thing is however, once you're signed up, there's a whole different web site we'll use for managing the DVR, which is so stupidly ridiculously easy to navigate, that literally the most basic level web browsing type individual could get through this with absolutely no issue at all. Beware that when you sign up, you're gonna need a copy of your bill, as there will be a 4 digit pin... hint... this isn't the last 4 digits of the primary account holder's SSN. This is a totally different number which is printed on your bill. You also will see your account number. Here is my account number with a few characters randomly changed in order to protect my security. Generally though, the number will look something like: 579806342. Again, that is *NOT* obviously my account number, so no mods kill me, ok? I'm not that stupid. I purposefully have changed around a few digits, and I'm not even gonna say which ones I changed, let alone what they should a been. Anyway, you'll need that number, as well as the 4 digit pin. Once you are signed up, then you need to visit http://mdvr.timewarnercable.com Then, simply log/sign in. From here, it's as symple as browsing, or searching for the show, bringing up the details of it, then clicking the link to record, cancel series, or record series. Then setting your record options, then confirmming. If you want to sign up for My Services and do this, then go simply to: http://www.timewarnercable.com Once here, click on the link that says My Services. Then, on this page, I think there is a register link, or something of the sort. Again, it's been a while since I set it up on my mom and I's account, but I do remember, once she read me the account number and pin, I stored that securely in a txt file on my system, and never since have really had to worry about it. I'm warning you that if you have an IPad, don't try the TWC TV app. It's not very accessible. You'd be much better off with this method I just describe, and BTW, yes the web site works perfectly! in Safari on I O S. I do it that way all the time! Anyway, as I said, this really is getting off topic, so I'll end this thread here. If anyone wants more information, I encourage them to either call Time Warner and ask about their beta of Remote DVR Manager through My Services, or if you want more a blind perspective bit of help, then write me off list at: ch...@clgproductions.com I'd be more than happy to help where I can. I've been using this service for quite a while now, just over 2 years to be specific, so believe me, I know both it, and the time warner dvr remote like the back of my hand, provided you have one of the Scientific Atlantic boxes, which I think is mainly now what they're using. Re: Accessible DVR
Shelley, To my knowledge, there is no DVR made by any brand sold in the U.S. But I wonder if the new access laws will change that. Already the major providers have to start providing DVS, or more accurately, they have to pass it through. I think they will soon have to provide devices that we can use. Re: Accessible DVR
Would love to find an external u s b TV tuner type card with DVR type ability as well, that would be accessible. That would make watching TV in my office such a breeze. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to call the cable company and get another box, and have them also install another coax jack, which I really don't wanna do as that's money I don't have... LOL! Re: Accessible DVR
Wouldn't you have to have satelite TV though for that to work? I have Time Warner, with their DVR service. Also, remember, we're wanting to record to the pc, not to an external d v r box... or, at least... that's what I'm! trying to achievce. I already have an accessible way to do this with my time warner box through the TW remote dvr manager web site. What I'm more so trying to do is to record from my television cable signal directly into the macbook with software, both the audio and the video, make it into a .mpeg file, or .avi file, etc. then be able to play it wherever. Re: List Policy gentle reminder, [Was: Accessible DVR]
Can't you use any of NCH Software's video tools, in conjunction with Air Play? By the way folks, just a gentle reminder. You are all quoting entire threads here plus everybody's lengthy signatures over and over and over again. Please let's all try to stop being quite so lazy when responding to messages. You'd also make it easier on your friendly list administrators as we wouldn't have to explain quite so many bounced messages to their authors. There is a 40K size restriction on messages to this group, and we see no reason to increase that value. After all, the actual response is only usually a couple of sentences at most, so why waste all that throughput? Sorry to harp on about this kind of thing but it was stipulated in the list policy document which you were all sent upon subscribing. By virtue of the fact that you're still here, you were deemed to have agreed with that policy document. In case you didn't read it, you can find that document at: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/Mac-Access-Welcome.html This is nothing personal, but let's all please try just that little bit harder to play fair with those members who have capped data throughput.
