1. go to disk utility

2. go to the drive name, for example 2 tb elements

3. go to the partitions tab and set it to 1.

4. name the partition (not required but a good idea) and make sure you are set
to what ever format in the pop up button (for example mac osx extended
journaled)
5. make sure the size is correct.

6. hit the partition button.
7. Read the warning very carefully and make sure you understand what will be
erased.
8 except the warning and wait for about maybe 5 minutes on the outside. I've
had this task get done in about 5 or so minutes on a good day.

Formatting/partitioning an external drive on a Mac

2013-10-21 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

I have a 2 tB external drive that I am using with my PC. I know that I need to
move all of the folders/files off before undertaking this task. I understand
that I need to go to utilities-disk utility in the main hard drive. What I am
seeking are step-by-step instructions on how to complete the partition process
after the above has been done. I would appreciate any input on this subject.

Thanks in advance.
