Jabra 2 HD Voice Hands Free Speaker

2013-11-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
Bought one of these yesterday so thought I'd give the list some idea of what it
does.

Firstly the Jabra 2 - although its designed for in car use - can be used on a
desk or anywhere without any issues.

The speaker has a mounting clip at the back which allows mounting to a sun
viser or similar in a car though this can be used to mount the speaker to a
shelf or similar depending on the users needs.

Setup is very straight forward and you will be given specific instructions via
a voice guideance system as soon as the speaker is charged and powered on.

First thing I did was to try to issue Siri commands to an IOS device, I had no
problems whatever with this but then again I shouldn't have worried given that
this phone is HD Voice Compatible and uses Bluetooth 4.

The Speaker works equally well with Facetime though I haven't as yet tried it
with Skype.

If Hd Voice is part of your mobile phone network then you're in for a treat
with the Jabra 2 speaker as the Speaker can take full advantage of the HD Voice
calls thus bringing the conversation to life as though you were in a room with
the other party.

We did some noise tests, I spoke to a plumber both in his van and outside
working and the HD Voice system handed noise cancelation quite well. What is
even more remarkable is how the noise cancelation system works even if loud
volume is applied to the Jabra 2

The Speaker has few buttons, a button on the speaker when pressed brings up
your iPhone's Siri and when held down allows you to access voice commands to
control the Jabra 2 Speaker system, What Can I Say will have the Speaker
speak a list of commands that can be issued for Speaker control.

At the top of the Speaker is a button marked by a tactile line which is used to
end a call but when in Standby reports the status of the Jabra 2, how much
talk time is available and so on. As far as I know when the Jabra 2 is charged
20 hours of talk time is available.

The power on/off toggle switch is on the left and a mute button is on the right
though I'm not sure if the mute button does anything whilst the Jabra 2 is in
Standby mode.

When on a call and the mute button is pressed the microphone is muted but the
sound of the call can still be heard through the speaker, a beep is sounded
every 30 seconds to remind you that you have the mute button enabled.

A cigarette lighter to USB adapter comes with the device as well as a standard
USB to micro USB cable so you can easily charge the Jabra 2 with your iPhone's
charger and so on.

I'm sure to discover more about the Jabra 2 as I continue playing and I'm yet
to even start looking at the instruction manual.

I found this product in the Apple Store using the Apple Store IOS app.

naturally the streaming of music is also supported to this device.

Sounds like a nice little device and glad it work with siri and all of that
good stuff.

We in the us don’t have hd voice calls as of yet but when we do I’m sure it
will sound just as good as I heard in that demo.

Re: Jabra 2 HD Voice Hands Free Speaker

2013-11-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
I'm amazed at what this unit is able to do for its small size, sound is
incredibly crisp and clear.

This has been discussed on list before so I hope people don't mind if I repeat
a few things.

If you plan to use Siri then you have to be very careful about the Bluetooth
device you buy to pair with your IOS device as many just don't have the Band
Width required for Siri to work correctly.

I've looked at quite a few different Hands Free Speakers and many are still
using the Bluetooth 2.0 or 2.1 standards. Whilst this will suffice reasonably
well for music streaming its no good whatever for HD Voice communication,
Facetime or Siri, the clarity of the human voice just isn't available to use.

Yes, I knew that Apple were putting in place a system which would use
Facetime over a Cell network in IOS7 but - as far as I knew - it had
nothing whatever to do with the HD Voice protocol that I ran a test
 with today.

The HD Voice protocol is not an Apple exclusive feature, Samsung S
Phones use it along with Nokia, other Google phones etc and the
technology was actually launched in Australia over 12 months ago
apparently - according to the stuff I've been checking out today.

Making a HD Voice call is don in exactly the same way as you'd make an
ordinary phone call, you dial the number from the key pad, you take it
from your contacts, you tell Siri to Call Dane Trethowan etc.

Re: a Hd Voice Call Between 2 iPhone 5 Handsets

2013-07-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
Interesting, if I always thought that Facetime was a completely Apple protocol
between Apple devices.

Yes, I knew that Apple were putting in place a system which would use Facetime
over a Cell network in IOS7 but - as far as I knew - it had nothing whatever to
do with the HD Voice protocol that I ran a test with today.

The HD Voice protocol is not an Apple exclusive feature, Samsung S Phones use
it along with Nokia, other Google phones etc and the technology was actually
launched in Australia over 12 months ago apparently - according to the stuff
I've been checking out today.

Making a HD Voice call is don in exactly the same way as you'd make an ordinary
phone call, you dial the number from the key pad, you take it from your
contacts, you tell Siri to Call Dane Trethowan etc.

To be fair perhaps I should have used my Samsung Galaxy S3 to call my friend

were any differences.

Interesting, if I always thought that Facetime was a completely Apple

Yes, I knew that Apple were putting in place a system which would use
Facetime over a Cell network in IOS7 but - as far as I knew - it had
nothing whatever to do with the HD Voice protocol that I ran a test with
 today.

The HD Voice protocol is not an Apple exclusive feature, Samsung S Phones
use it along with Nokia, other Google phones etc and the technology was
actually launched in Australia over 12 months ago apparently - according to
the stuff I've been checking out today.

Making a HD Voice call is don in exactly the same way as you'd make an
ordinary phone call, you dial the number from the key pad, you take it from
your contacts, you tell Siri to Call Dane Trethowan etc.

Fyi it will be possible to make and receive hd voice calls thanks to

was announced at Wwdc and information should be available on the Apple

 Hi!

Folks seem to have been rather curious as to the quality of the HD
Voice standard which is current on many models of modern Smart Phone
including the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S range.

Gary Pearse and I conducted a short HD Voice Call which I make
available here for those who are interested in what HD Voice sounds
 like.

Note that I used the actual Speakerphone of the iPhone 5 so - if you
use something like the Senheiser MM500 or MM550 headsets or any
compatible Bluetooth 4.0 Speakerphone unit such as the Braven 650 then
 quality may sound better again.
