IOS7.1: convert v. convela

2014-03-30 Thread Diane Bomar
Please type in the word "convert " in search on an IIOS 7.1 device, and have
VO read it.

I have done this with 3 separate users, on iPad mini, iPhone 4s, and iPhone
4.
In all cases, VO says "convela." I realize this is very weird, and cannot
believe that it is true. Before upgrading to IOS7.1 on my iPhone 4s, I checked
this out, and it was saying "convert" correctly. When I have checked this out,
I have always added a space after the word. While reading text, that contains
the word "convert" it is pronounced "convela".

I did call Apple about this, but the person I spoke with thought I didn't know
what I was doing. I would have thought the same, in his position. He tried it,
and I heard his device say it correctly . He claimed to be using 7.1.

I feel pretty stupid even suggesting this as a possible issue, because I cannot
imagine how it could have changed, from a sw perspective, from 7.0.6 to 7.1.

Thanks,
Diane

did you add a key board auto correct some ware? Go to settings, general, the
keyboard, then to shortcuts. Thats the only thing I could suggest for now.

2014-03-30 Thread Bryan Jones
Hello Diane,

Thank you for posting this. I’ve noticed it when using the US English HQ voice
on my iPhone 5S and iPad Mini since upgrading both to IOS 7.1. I slowed the
speech rate down to 5 percent and still hear it pronounced as "conv a lot.”

Note that pronunciation of the word seems fine when using the Australian
English & British English HQ voices, at least to my non-native ears.

Seems like an issue worth reporting to accessibil...@apple.com.

Cheers,
Bryan

Subject: IOS7.1: convert v. convela

Please type in the word "convert " in search on an IIOS 7.1 device, and
have
VO read it.

I have done this with 3 separate users, on iPad mini, iPhone 4s, and
iPhone 4.
In all cases, VO says "convela." I realize this is very weird, and cannot
believe that it is true. Before upgrading to IOS7.1 on my iPhone 4s, I
checked
this out, and it was saying "convert" correctly. When I have checked this
out,
I have always added a space after the word. While reading text, that
contains
the word "convert" it is pronounced "convela".

I did call Apple about this, but the person I spoke with thought I didn't
know
what I was doing. I would have thought the same, in his position. He tried
it,
and I heard his device say it correctly . He claimed to be using 7.1.

I feel pretty stupid even suggesting this as a possible issue, because I
cannot
imagine how it could have changed, from a sw perspective, from 7.0.6 to
7.1.

Thanks,
Diane

Yes this is totally the case. I typed in the notes app, in a search screen, in
email and got the same weird result every time. I don’t see how an agent could
have gotten any different. I used mixed case, all lower case, quotes as you did
int he message, etc. No difference.
It’s not a show stopper but it is weird.

As the Mac Access Dot Net administrators, we do our very best to ensure that
the Mac-Access E-Mal list remains malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and
worm-free. However, this should in no way replace your own security strategy.
We assume neither liability nor responsibility should something unpredictable
happen.
