I downloaded this app onto my iPad by treating it as though I were doing a new purchase from the App Store. The behavior with VoiceOver is odd. I was able to get this into full screen mode, but although the game displays in portrait mode, just like for the iPhone, VoiceOver announces this as landscape -- even when I have orientation unlocked when I start this up. Further, in order to flick to the controls I have to flick up (instead of right) or down (instead of left). But the descriptions are still for the portrait mode play. This is extremely weird. I think that someone who actively plays this game, and who also has an iPad should write to the developer. Matthew, the game has a board or 10 rows (labeled 1 through 10) and 10 columns (labeled a through j) on which 5 ships of different lengths are placed either horizontally or vertically. You'll hear announcements like ship, aircraft carrier, vertical, from i3 to i7 or ship, battleship, horizontal, from c4 to f4 that announce the random placement of these ships on your board. The positions and orientations of your ships are hidden from your opponent, who will try to launch hits at various squares on your board in attempts to get a hit on one of your ships. You, in turn, will move about your board, firing in an attempt to sink his ships, at their unknown positions. When you get a hit, you then try to follow up by striking adjacent squares until you cover all parts of that ship. You need to decide whether the ship is horizontally or vertically oriented, based on your current position on the board, and the positions of your previous misses or strikes. You each get points for each successful strike. When you sink a ship, you'll be told what type of ship you destroyed, and the positions of your strikes. Each round ends when either you or your opponent succeeds in sinking all five of the other's battleships. HTH. Here's the URL if you're interested. It was free for the day on July 4, 2012, so I posted it to the list. Hi Krystal and Matthew, Naval Combat is an accessible iOS battleship game, which can be played either as a single user against the program on an iPhone or iPod Touch, or in group play through the Game Center.
