People, this isn’t accessibility? This is a joke. We shouldn’t have to jump
through hoops to use the app. I just received a survey by Facebook and they

There IC app works a lot better. This is why I am not a major face booker. I
just get frustrated with the app and give up.

We shouldn’t except second rate quality. No one else in the market does.

Re: Facebook apps and refund of app.

2014-09-01 Thread Bryan Jones
Hello Sean — I regularly experience the first 3 issues in your list. Here are a
handfull of other FB App issues I experience with some regularity. This is on
an iPhone 5S, IOS 7.1.2, FB App version 14.
1. In general, when attempting to open a post by performing a one finger
double-tap, or when attempting to “interact” with a post by performing a two
finger double-tap, the behavior is just absurdly unpredictable. Sometimes
things work exactly as expected, but often the results leave me scratching my
head. I regularly encounter obstacles such as the "Ufi overlay tag” message,
the “unfollow this person” message, the “item selected” message or sometimes
just complete silence.
2. Double-tapping a “Like” button prduces unpredictable results. Sometimes it
works as expected to show that I like a post, other times it jumps to a
different location in the thread, and occasionally it even activates a
different link or button somewhere else on the screen.
3. If I am reading through my newsfeed and perform a one-finger double-tap to
open a particular post so that I might read comments or follow an embedded URL
or whatever, I am often stonewalled by VO saying “item selected” but the post
not actually opening. The only way I’ve found past this is to triple-click-home
to turn VO off, perform a single one finger tap in the approximate screen
location where I think the desired post resides, and then turn VO back on. Of
course, this means I sometimes activate something I did not want to.
4. If I enter a post because I want to read some external content the poster
has included, such as a link to an external site or a link to the body of a
shared article, there is no way to move item-by-item within the post in order
to focus on the URL. The only option is to double-tap the body of the post and
hope it activates the desired object, which often does not happen.
5. When attempting to post a photo, the FB interface to the camera roll is
still not very VO-friendly.

If you haven’t already done so, I’d recommend submitting feedback to FB via the
following form:
https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/169372943117927

HTH,
Bryan

I can only address the "stop following" issue. When that happens, just close
the app and take it out of the app switcher. When you open the app again, it
should be okay.

Okay, that is good. But I have the following problems and I am using the latest
version.

1. When in news feed. It tells you to perform a 2 finger double tap. This opens
a dialog that asks you to stop following. I want to open the news feed and
review the comments. Cannot do this.

2. When I open some notifications, speech stops if there is a photo. If I go to
the home screen and back into the Facebook app. It works.

3. When looking through notifications and news feeds. If you use the left and
right swipe to move between elements. It sometimes dings and doesn’t move.
Other times it refreshes and throwing me off the current item I am trying to
use.

4. I cannot find my timeline.

Is there any blog on how to use it with VO more effectively?

Yes. I'm surprised you didn't get the update as it was posted on or
around the 28th at my end. They promise to update the app every four
weeks and that promise have been kept for the time being.

Currently using Facebook and a finding some real strange problems.

I just purchased the Focus Tech/Science magazine and found it was not
accessible. The publisher is not going to make it so due to being 100% digital
or in other words it being graphical. Hense I needed to get my refund from the
magazine. The tip I shall share is if you go to the email containing the

Re: facebook

2013-08-25 Thread Bryan Jones
The following steps work to log me out of FB on my macbook air running the
latest versions of mountain lion and safari.

1. Press VO+I to open the item chooser menu.
2. Type account to narrow your selection and then use the up/down arrows to
find the item labeled "Account Settings," then press Return to place the VO
cursor on the Account Settings menu.
3. Press VO+Spacebar to pull down the Account Settings menu.
4. Press the Tab key once to move focus to the "Logout" item in the Account
Settings menu, and then press VO+Spacebar to activate the Logout item.
5. As is often the case with the full FB site, pressing VO+Spacebar may or may
not properly activate the Logout item, so I would second Sarah's suggestion of
pressing VO+Command+F5 to bring the mouse pointer to the VO cursor and then
clicking the trackpad to click the Logout menu item.

Let me add I think you need to click on yourself first. I cant' remember how I
did it but I did google for interactions and they sort of helped. but yeah in
any case look for the log out button b by using either quick nav or the b key
for buttons.

Good luck.

a web spot right on the what's on your mind field, and almost every time
I pull Facebook up by my bookmark it opens right to the what's on your
mind field, so if I want to post something I just type and click post.
Yeah I know you can post through notification center, but I find on my mac
this seems to be the fastest way for me to post. Hope this helps some.

2013-07-31 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Not that I"m aware of. That would be nice though. I just hit vo m, d, u, right
arrow, f, down arrow once, enter. If you are comfortable with doing that you
can switch agents fast. Feel free to try out the other ones as I only have used
firefox.

I've had a FAceBook account set up for a while, but never really used it.
I just looked at the website and it seems to me, at first glance, to be an
accessibility nightmare with VoiceOver. I know that others do use it
though, so how do others make good use of FAceBook? I'm sure we bought an
app for this in the App Store a while back, so here's the question. Do
others use third party applications, or do they use the website itself? I
think that probably most of the problem I'm having is purely and simply
that I'm not used to FAceBook. I use third party apps for Twitter, and
they help me a lot. Hopefully the same can be said of FaceBook, in due
 course.

 Kind regards

Why would that matter? Not trying to be rude or disrespectful in any way,
just curious, wouldn't it work with Safari? I've used it this way before
with no issues. And yes, I know it is Safari, but the user agent is the
thing that is changing, wouldn't it work with the user agent set to Safari?

Re: FaceBook

2013-07-31 Thread Sarah k Alawami
yeah it does. It sends a header out to the site telling it it's firefox and it
renders it like a firefox browser. I dunno how all of this stuff works but I'm
learning lol! and here is a bit of a demo on it. if it does not work try again
in a few minutes.

That's the thing. the user agent is set to auto so set it to firefox and

Why would that matter? Not trying to be rude or disrespectful in any way, just
curious, wouldn't it work with Safari? I've used it this way before with no
issues. And yes, I know it is Safari, but the user agent is the thing that is
changing, wouldn't it work with the user agent set to Safari?

Re: FaceBook

2013-07-31 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi,
There is a Facebook mobile app for iOS, which is actually very nice especially
in the latest version. One tip for navigating the website though is to use
heading navigation liberally. All status updates, etc. are navigable in this
way. With the mobile app you can access all common features however, and they
put some thought into making it is accessible as possible.
It is simply called Facebook, by Facebook Inc.
Yours,
Zack.

Hello. It's not whether they have a clue; it's whether they
C-A-R-E. Many folks have complained about the accessibility of
Facebook to the developers without much success. Windows or Mac, it
doesn't matter; results the same.
