Re: Audio book binder

2013-09-10 Thread Sarah k Alawami
It converts the whole mp3 book to m4b unless it is over 24 hours long. then we
have issues. I tonly does I think 15 of those 24 or more hour long books. I've
left a review on this and I think I contacted the author years ago when I
started using this app but no joy.

Re: Audio book binder

2013-09-10 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hi George,
I use audio book binder all the time. I use the split files and renumber
options to divide the book into chapters each corresponding to a single MP3
file. that makes it easier to find your place if you ever get lost. If the book
is very long you need to split it into parts merging say the first 50 MP3 files
into part 1 and the rest into part 2. I can give you full details of how I use
it if you want. It works very nicely for me and is free!

That would be great.
I've got all 7. Harry potter books.
Each chapter is one file.

Re: Audio book binder

2013-09-11 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello George,
I get audio books from www.calibre.org.uk. the books come on memory sticks with
each book comprising up to 120 MP3 files with names like 001034-001, 001034-002
and so on with each file containing about 10 minutes of audio.

I first play the first MP3 files which announces the book title and author
name.

I then open audio book binder and enter the author name and book title. I then
select the files tab and press the add button. that opens a dialogue enabling
me to select all the MP3 files on the memory stick which get copied into the
table when I press the open button.

I then select all the files in the table and go to the chapters item in the
audio book binder menu bar. I ensure that enable chapters is checked and then
press the split files item. that doubles the number of files in the files
table. I then go back to the chapters item in the menu bar and press the
renumber item. that creates a separate chapter for each MP3 file. this has two
benefits. First it enables me to more easily skip forwards and backwards by
sensible amounts of time when reading the book on my iPod Nano. Second while
the iPod Nano remembers my reading position you can mess this up by incorrect
operation. Having a separate chapter for each MP3 file enables me to easily
find my place in those circumstances.

I finally go to the file menu and press the make audio book item. I choose the
folder where I want the audio book saved. I then have to be patient while the
audio book is built.

I then play the completed audio book for a few seconds to get it into iTunes so
that I can sync it with my iPod Nano 7.

If it is a very long audio book I would create it as part 1 containing the
first set of files and part 2 containing the second set of files. this is
sometimes necessary as my iPod Nano does not cope with audio books longer than
about 10 hours.

Hope this helps...

Actually one step you can shorten is to either press cmd b for bind or hit the
bind button all the way at the bottom of the window in the main dialogue.

Take care.

Hello Donald,
I think audio book binder is free while you have to pay for audio book builder.

I have both installed and when I last tried it I found audio book builder
significantly harder to use and slower than audio book binder.

2013-09-11 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Hi Paul,

This is interesting. I'm also noticing issues with the books that Audiobook
builder produces. On the mac they seem to be correctly divided into chapters,
however when transferred to the iPhone this information is lost resulting in
very large (and long) parts of the book.

Thanks very much,
