Hi, lovette, I'd advise a system restore. if the seller has provided you with the recovery software for the machine (OS X and the ilife system, etc) then you're good to go. I advise this for two reasons. 1: data protection 2: a clean installation is much better than an nstall where settings have been changed. Unfortunately I do not have any softwre or backup. He apparently did reformate and rreinstall things. I wish I knew now what I did not when I got the lap top. I love the mac now but feel awkward about this password thing. OK let's see what can be done here. you say that when you try to make system changes and need to lock or unlock and it asks for a password. stupid question but did you try just hitting enter on the password. there's a chance there's no password but it always asks for one as normal, no matter whether you log in or anything else. if your system wasn't set up with a password then you are ok. if there is a system password, then it's time to break out the big guns... He may have said there is no password but from what I understand you can't set up a mac without a password. I have no password on my Imac as I am the only person who uses it. I have never had any problems. Usually what I do if I am asked for authentication is press Item chooser and then end . This normally land me on the OK button and just press twice to activate. Interesting? I hear that you must have a password on the newer operationg systemsj. I inow of someone else who does not have a password and you just hit enter. Not safe if you ask me. but if yoru person set it up wiht out a password Im sure there is a way to add one in your account? I hear that you must have a password on the newer operationg systemsj. I inow of someone else who does not have a password and you just hit enter. Not safe if you ask me. but if yoru person set it up wiht out a password Im sure there is a way to add one in your account?
