Hi Esther

Yes, that's what I meant.  You cannot download trial applications from the app 
store.  But I had understood that Apple meant that developers shouldn't post 
trials on their websites.  But thinking about it, you're absolutely right.  Why 
should Apple have any jurisdiction on developer's external policies.  So thanks 
for the clarification.
