Just a note about the Desktop here, and this is  my experience. This may  no 
longer be an issue for most people. For some reason (which I've not yet had 
chance to look into) OS X does not like clutter on the desktop. The od folder 
shouldn't pose a problem, though I would imagine that this depends on the size 
of the folder and its contents. So in short, it might be an idea not to clutter 
your Desktop with too many folders.

You got it. I have several of the little buggers on my desk top all pointing to 
folders on both of my drives. Think of these as a link to a file/folder stored 
any ware on your system including eternal drives. so instead of going to

on my desk top and I'm there.  You have to move the thing from there you 
created the alius to the desk top though but it's all worth it.
