applescript code to count words in text edit

2013-11-18 Thread Travis Siegel
Well, Since I wrote the last reply, I've fixed the issue with the file
not found error. But then I decided the script was worse than junk,
and rewrote the whole thing. Now it counts words, lines and
paragraphs, as well as presents the results in a nice dialog box with
the name of the document so you know for sure which file is being
counted. I'm not sure it's word counts are all that accurate, as it
told me on one of my documents that I had only 605 words, but over
2700 lines, and 94000 characters in the document, so clearly, the word
count was off, but It could have been an issue with the formatting of
the document, since it was a converted html document.
So, there it is. I'd wager it could be used with other editors too,
if they support scripting, but I've not tested any, so can't say for
sure.

hope this helps.
You can find the wordcount script at:
http://mac.softcon.com/scripts/Index.html
along with all of the other apple scripts I've posted there in the past.
Enjoy.

2013-11-18 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I use Itext express and hit cmd y as it comes with a counter nd is very very
accurate right down to the white space. It has helped me write a 8 page paper
due the next day, and even though I will never do that again, at least it saved
my bacon. lol!

Take care.

Just save the script somewhere on your file system, then use finder to
open it. It'll automatically open the applescript editor. You'll
need to open it yourself if you're pasting in code, and if that's the
case, it's located in applications/applescript/applescripteditor (at
least it was on tiger, leopard, and snowleopard, can't say beyond that.)

hth.
