Perhaps automatic means check when there's new messages on the server or check when Mail opens. Tha’ts what i”m thinking.I actually sent mine to manual as I don’t want mine pinging my server as some of my mail is hosted on a shared server of my web site. Tc. I believe Automatic may refer to the imap capacity for push notification. In other words your email client will be alerted when a mail arrives on the mail server and simply download it rather than downloading at time intervals. David Griffith.
