[Mac-access]: Voice Over Issue With The New iPad Air 2
I have just purchased the new iPad and have escalated some issues regarding Voice Over not performing as it did on my old one, and was wondering if anyone has experienced the following: 1. In the Apple Store App: After selecting a store from the list, a pop up appears with the button to confirm the store selection. when double tapping, the app crashes. 2. In the App Store: The only way I have been able to get rid of the pop up after selecting an app to download and install, is by turning off Voice Over. I turn it back on again when I want to make another selection. 3. While I realize that some guessers have changed, such as the way you close apps, I am noticing that Voice Over bounces around. I have demonstrated these at the store, because I would rather the feed back come from them; it seems to go further. Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini
Hi Brenda. the orientation lock is in the control centre, so you have to touch the status bar and do a three finger swipe up and then swipe right with one finger past the media player controls, airplane, wifi, bluetooth and do not disturb to orientation lock. Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini
Hello Brenda. With Voice dream from what I know you don’t sink books that are in the library. You can open books in there using the services that it allows you like drop box or Book share i think. There are others. There may be other settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can be downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that they were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like books that you can make with it. I hope this helps. Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini
You will need to restore it using iTunes, or from settings, general, reset, erase and reset, and when that is done and you are setting up the iPad by hand choose ro restore from an iCloud back up on the iPad itself do not use iTunes. Oh and make sure all iCloud settings you want enabled on the iPhone are actually enabled and that iCloud is actually turned on on your iPhone too. You can do this by going to settings, and iCloud. Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini
Well, this is interesting. I thought about doing that, too, but kept insisting this should and could be done. Finally I did get the job done, but--I could not get my folders that I made over there, so I decided that I guess I'd have to forget that notion. They say thereis a way, but I couldn't do it, simply because my screen reader does not seem to have access to where they say we need to go. That part will be off topic here, so won't belabor the point. At any rate, I got it to where all I had to do was to redownload the voices. Seemed the last step I took, put the iPad in sync with my phone enough, that it saw the purchases and let me know, but still had to reinstall that. Some of the log ins for radio apps needed to be put back and so on. I kept getting asked when the phone would come back on, if I had given the iPad permission to access certain things such as iCloud and stuff like that. So, yeah, I got something that I can work with at this point now. There are others. There may be other settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can be downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that they were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like books that you can make with it. I hope this helps. New iPad
Good evening all well i finally got my iPad mini wifi 128 gb in silver over an hour ago. The setup was painless, but lol! I had to turn everything on in iCloud settings just to get my contacts for example! Now I'm currently downloading the free apps that Apple now offers when you purchase a new iDevice, such as Pages. This is why I'm not sending this from my iPad at this time. Well my impressions overall? Very good! Feels nice and shiny, sound quality is just amazing, and the on-screen keyboard is very nice actually! Reminds me of a laptop keyboard because of the placement of the comma and period keys to the right of m for example. Just need some more practice though but I am getting there. But lol! earlier on, could I find the at key as part of signing into my Apple Id? Could I heck! Turned out it was to the right of the m key! Anyway will keep you updated but those are my feelings so far. Can't wait to test the sound out with music I synced to my iPad earlier on. Speaking of which going to forget iTunes Match altogether, because it won't let me sync my music for offline listening otherwise. You take care and hope we can get something going on this! -- Best wishes for 2014 Chris --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. re: New iPad
Hi Chris If you've used an iPhone, which I know you have, you'll have no trouble adapting to the iPan Mini. The procedures for using it with VO are very much the same. I personally really like the new Mini, although I cannot currently justify the upgrade, as my 3rd generation iPad still works very well. I set up the mini as a new device and for some reason all of my apps aren't showing up in purchased in the app store on the iphone. What would be the best way to get these apps on to the IPad? I know they work on IPads. Thank you for any help. Also would it have been bettter to just restore from the Iphone backup? Or would that have not been a good idea? Re: The new iPad.
I doubt very much you'd notice much difference to be honest. I'm not going to talk about iOS6 because Apple discourages speculation. But your iPad 2 should be future-proof for a while yet. It's only the original iPad which is being effectively dropped. Of course, technical support and warranty services won't be affected if, for example, you have an AppleCare plan which includes your original iPad. Also it should be remembered that developers might be able to add functionality to existing software because of improved hardware for example the higher quality camera might improve o.c.r apps and other scanning software for voiceover to work with. Re: new ipad
I can tell you how many times I read these knee jerk reactions like this. People seem to foget that the iPad and other devices are not marketed for the blind. The vast majority of the market share are sighted folks. Thus, the bells and whistles are going to be orientated for that population. However, as pointed out, that does not at all mean that the improvements to the processor and camera won't benefit the blind. It is a vast improvement overall, and as with any new iDevice, the extent of the improvements are never apparent from the presentation and don't seem to get fully realized until the device is being sold and third party developers really start taking advantage of its new specs. So, if you don't need a new iPad or you are happy with what you have, that is fine. The new iPad may not be for you. However, don't make snap reactions simply from a presentation that was not geared towards accessibility and go assuming anything. And you honestly consider that to be a reasonable request? I'll go you one better. How about demanding that every sheet of toilet paper be embossed with Braille instructions describing how to locate the area of application? After all, as a blind person I may never be able to locate it otherwise? My concern is that if a company takes the steps that Apple has and people demand modifications such as you describe, as a CEO I'd take that as an indication that I need to get out of the business and leave it to the access technology people to worry about accessibility. And ironically, I suspect most blind people would prefer to work with a QWERTY!! Best regards. Re: new ipad
Hi, Just to correct you here. Yes, Apple does allow it, and yes they do exist, but experimentally so. However, the companies haven't made it into a regular keyboard such as the ones you can set under Keyboard preferences in Settings, which is also possible to do without any particular access to any source code. You don't need any low-level access in iOS to do this, so if the company can make it a workable solution, it's perfectly able to be worthwhile. I admit it'd be interesting to try, but it wouldn't make me faster. Even so, though, the fact it is a small demand makes Apple less likely to do it. Most companies probably wouldn't go for small-demand features, at least, not often I'd think. Regards, Nicolai On Mar 9, 2012, at 4:40 AM, Glenn wrote: That is not a big demand! Either you did not think out your response, or you did not get what I meant by a Perkins-style on-screen keyboard.
