CAN'T rather than can, Jobs want you paying and paying again before you

can, has and will continue to do so. :) Lets not forget one pay to play

For $0 run a mac emulator on the XP box, you can use the chooser on
either the imac or from within the emulation to connect to each other
and to any pre-OS9 machine, a nice trick that can be done under apples
new version of NeXT. Naturally the pc can talk to any OSX box as it uses
Samba, another bit of free software ported so OSX can talk to other
machines.

The Windows version of SheepSaver runs ppc 7.5 - 9.2.2 ( Have 9.1
installed and I'm guessing further upgrades will also work) but sadly as
yet there is no TAP ethernet patch made for it. Looking at the timetable
its a month or two away. SheepSaver emulates the classic ppc OSes well
otherwise at good speed. I mention this as Basilisk hardfiles can be
loaded so you may "upgrade" from BII's 68k emulation to a ppc emulation
in the near (maybe now?) future.

Finally, if your pc has some grunt, 1.8ghz or better - better *is*
better, you can emulate OSX via PearPC which includes networking and is
improving. I run Panther 10.3.8 this way with a boot time of 57seconds
now, better than the G4/400 :) No prize there really as that mac was
never made to run the OS. The office will be getting a copy of tiger or
tabby or moggie - whatever this pay per view upgrade is called, I will
be testing it soon. ;)

Can the new mini take older ADB peripherals? I still have a 6360 with
a nice monitor and keyboard. Might be time for an upgrade.

Wait a year and the mini will be way cheaper if you must buy one, I'd
save for a while and buy a real computer instead. If your only real need
is networking my first suggestion is either Basilisk II on the doze box
or VPC3 or 4 on the imac, ones free while you will have to ask for the
other. ;)

A nix box provides a wealth of services, you need to be willing to
learn!!! You will find the education worthwhile in the long run if your
that way inclined.

There are USB to ADB adaptors, but I dunno about the
compatability of peripherals other than keyboards
and mice. With "classic" Mac OS, they work with nearly
all ADB devices.

These USB to ADB adaptors will also work to some
extent with a PC, but only keyboards are fully
functional. I don't have any multi-button ADB mice
to try, but I suspect that all the buttons would
work as the Left button or only one button would
work on a PC. If someone would get off their arse
and write drivers, a whole host of nifty ADB
peripherals could be used on a PC with one of those
adaptors! (Like the Microsoft ADB Sidewinder 3D Pro
joystick.)

There's more than one way to skin a cat :)

What you're refering to "networking" here is AppleTalk, which has been
dropped from XP.

You can also run an FTP server from the Mac or an HTTP server such as
MacHTTP, or even use the Macs own Web folder feature. A simple FTP
server is nice, as you only need to dump files into a folder, double
click the server to start and away you go. The free Hotline FTP server
springs to mind (not to be confused with Hotline P2P client), which I
have archived if you can't find it via web.

USB to ADB was answered earlier, but the mini comes with an adapter for
different monitor types.

A freestanding *nix server running Samba and Netatalk is still the best
way to go IMHO.

The great idea with the mini is to take your old *PC* peripherals and
convert you to OSX!

To upgrade a 6360, I think a B&W G3 is a great cheaper choice. That's
what I use when not using my G4 PowerBook. It was the last Mac to have
an ADB port built in and it is still supported by OSX. The B&W standard
video card has a VGA output, but you could swap that for one with an
Apple style if your monitor needs that. If you have other SCSI
peripherals then the Adaptek 2930 PCI card works well.

Would probably cost less than $150 :-) Try the LEM swap list.

Mini doesn't have ADB at all, although as far as I know you can still get
ADB-USB converters. The monitor should work with the Mini although you might
need an adaptor for that as well.

If you have run BetaX on a imac or <500mhz ppc you wouldn't recommend
it. People do and good luck to them.

What are the chances of using the version of dave found on Gambas site

Another option is the old FTP or hotline server (ect) on either machine.
Firewalled to not serve to the web.

A nix box is good, either a G5 running osX or a PII (lower if need be)

You might also use your web space as a virtual hdd for swapping smaller

In a nutshell the classic OS and Windoze don't get along without some
help, how much you give is up to you.

Have already turned on sharing on the mac, and have a shared folder.
Have done essentially the same on the windowbox.
