I used to use Opera 6.03 under Mac OS 9, and I'm pretty sure it ran
under Mac OS 8.6. It's a good browser, although a bit dated by today's
standards. I used it because it was faster than the other browsers that
ran under Mac OS 9.

OmniWeb is a purely Mac OS X product.

There are going to be problems running any of the really old browsers
because they don't support the XML and newer HTML constructs that are
in so many of the fancy Web pages. I also doubt whether there's an up
to date Flash plugin.

Also, Java support has much improved since they were written. None of
the older browsers were very good with Java. All the browsers under Mac
OS X work quite well with Java because Apple has integrated it into Mac
OS X instead of leaving it as a sorry afterthought, as in the old days.

Yeah, there is a monthly charge for TiVo as well. You'r subscribing to
the channel guide service, essentially it's like buying a subscription
to TV Guide.

MacGroup: Web browsers

2005-02-22 Thread Rex Baldazo
Somebody on the list mentioned iCab to me earlier, and I've tried it.
It's www.icab.de (yes, the company is German apparently but the Web site
is mostly in English and they have an English version of the software).

On my hardware, it's not all that fast a browser but it does seem to be
good enough to support pages like My Yahoo which are pretty complicated
these days.

Group
What are the latest web browsers that 8.5 can use.
I have seen Safari among and others, but they say at least OS 10.
I may just have to get another computer to be able to get online
anymore!
Thanks
Jan

TiVo gives you a choice between a monthly fee (~$13) or a product
lifetime subscription (a one-time payment of ~$300). It's not just TV
Guide; it also allows you "season passes" and the other goodies that
you can't get with some other services like Insight.

My first TiVo unit is in the loving hands of UPS and should be here by
the end of the week. :-) I'm sick of missing my favorite shows because
they were pre-empted by basketball games and rescheduled for some
unknown time.

Mobile PC apparently came up with a list of the greatest gadgets ever,
and the PowerBook 100 topped the list:

Thanks for all your helpful info. I shall be much more informed when I
finally get around to buying all that great stuff . And then I shall
probably need help in setting it all up.
