MacGroup: Epson CD printer - text

2006-02-06 Thread LuAnn Johnson
I am in the process of designing a label for a CD and want to change the
text to white because the background is dark. One would think that
option would be under the text edit menu, but I can't seem to locate it.

Has anyone encountered this before and can tell me where to look?

Thanks.

Luann

There is no white ink on an inkjet, so I suspect that to be the
problem...jf

LuAnn : What is the Epson printer model your'e using? Most of the Epson
printers that can print onto an CD/DVD
have a software program called "Epson Print CD". This will allow you to
change your text to white as long as you use the
White inkjet printable CD/DVD disk.

Seem to remember someone mentioning a shareware program for cd/dvd
printing. Anyone remember. Guess I trashed the message.

MacGroup: Epson CD printer - text

2006-02-07 Thread LuAnn Johnson
I recently purchased an Epson Sylus Photo R220, mostly so I could print
more professional looking DVDs. I'm using Epson Print CD, but still
can't find where to change the text color.

Last year I bought a $10 package at Big Lots that contained a couple
dozen sheets of DVD stick-on labels AND a program called exPRESSit.
I've had no problem changing the text to white with this program, and
the stick-on labels are OK. So I'm back to using the stick-on labels
simply because I can't change the text color with Epson Print CD.

The answer has got to be something so obvious that I'm just not seeing it.

I think I had the same program. My ex has it now. Next time I am around
there I will check it out. I seem to remember making the text with no
color fill so that it "reverses" out of the background or whatever image
you may have on the disk layout. We had the Epson R200 with the CD
printing ability.

I'll check on the color fill option. And just had the bright idea that
I might could even call Epson! Why didn't I think of that before?!?

The original poster said that the background on the CDs was NOT
white. Printers don't speak white. A white stock (paper, CD, napkin,
whatever) is assumed. So anytime you specify white to a printer it is
assuming NO INK. Indeed in some older page layout programs it was not
called "white," but "paper." Even when the program calls it "white"
what it means is "no color." That is why there is really no such
thing as printing white on something that is not. In the printing
industry if you REALLY have to print something that has to be the
correct color (especially a color photograph), but the stock is not
white then you have to lay down a layer of opaque white first before
the other colors. This is also done in your better silkscreen
operations if you are printing on a dark material. White text on a
color uses the special opaque white also. Look at bright colors on a
black t-shirt sometime and you can see what I mean.

Desktop printers have no such option. You can have any color you want
as long as you can make it with cyan, magenta, yellow or black. White
is not an ink option.

That is why most printable CDs are white.

Much as I hate Epson's Print CD, I do know the answer to this one:

Go to the View menu and select "Show Color Settings." Create the
color you want with the sliders.

Then you click the text tool and type your text into the text
settings windowlet.

You know the next step: "Fight with the abysmal user interface."

Luann:

It dosen't matter if you use the white stick on labels or the White
inkjet printable CD/DVD disk just as long as it's WHITE.
When you go into Epson Print CD select your flower icon in the tool
palette and place your dark photo on the CD layout.
You might have to resize your photo in order to fill the layout. Once
you've completed this task then select the Text icon.
You should have a Text Settings & Color Settings boxes on your desktop
to work with.

To change your color text to white.
Look at the area under Color Settings box.
Make sure youv'e selected the button as "Paint Color" and it is RGB.
Using the sliders Marked
"R" slide it all the way to the right, this should read 255. Do this
for G & B.
This will give the white text over any dark or darker areas.

That did it! Thanks! I knew that white was the absence of color so the
white from the label could show through, but I never thought to look at
Color Settings instead of Text Settings.

Now I can continue with the project. :)
